Senate panel approves bill to protect special counsel
The Hill ^ | 04/26/2018 | Jordain Carney

The Senate Judiciary Committee approved legislation on Thursday to protect special counsel Robert Mueller.

In a 14-7 vote, the panel approved the bipartisan proposal that deeply divided Republicans on the committee.

With every committee Democrat backing the legislation, only one Republican was needed to secure passage.

In the end, 4 Republicans voted for the measure.

The vote marks the first time Congress has advanced legislation to formally protect Mueller from being fired as Trump has publicly railed against him, and reportedly privately talked of firing him.

The bill, sponsored by Sens. Chris Coons (D-Del.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.), would codify Department of Justice regulations that say only a senior Department of Justice official can fire Mueller or another special counsel.

It would give a special counsel an "expedited review" of their firing. If a court determines that it wasn't for "good cause" they would be reinstated.

The committee also added new reporting requirements into the bill, including notification when a special counsel is appointed or removed and requiring a report be given to Congress after an investigation wraps up that details its findings and decisions to prosecute.

I know the democRATS are idiots but what about the four Republicans that voted for this bill to protect Mueller?

This is an example of why politicians are worthless.

Trump will not sign the bill and they don't have enough votes to override. So what is the point of this? Why are they wasting their time?

Not one Republican has put forth a bill to protect Trump from the Mueller fishing expedition. Why not?

I doubt this bill would survive SCOTUS. It’s a clear usurpation of executive perogatives by the legislature.

Don't bet on the black robed tyrants to do the right thing.

Mueller is a comet. He’s losing mass every day and will eventually fade out.

Comets can hang around for millenia. I'd prefer a meteor. A little tiny bit of dust that flares up, vaporizes and is heard from no more.

It would give a special counsel an "expedited review" of their firing. If a court determines that it wasn't for "good cause" they would be reinstated.

So, the legislative branch is going to empower the judicial branch to over turn the decisions of the Chief Executive. I think even Kagan and Sotomayor can see the problem with this.

It’s already been decided by the Supreme Court. See: Myers v. United States, 272 U.S. 52 (1926), was a United States Supreme Court decision ruling that the President has the exclusive power to remove executive branch officials, and does not need the approval of the Senate or any other legislative body.

I thought Linda said he supports the President? If he does why is he voting to knee cap him?

Pretty sad. I would for Rand Paul. But I can’t name a single Senator I would vote for beyond that.

Grassley was a surprise; not Tillis. He’s always been anti-Trump.

Coons - worthless ignorant fool. Been drinking too much of Delaware’s polluted water for too long. My Maine Coon cat has a better IQ that this clown. Hey, why don’t we call him “Coon The Clown”?

After all, he is a member of the 100 Clown Senate Circus.

Corey Booker - the biggest racist fraud in the Senate. Also the biggest con artist as a politician since Obama.

Linda Graham - pissed off because he missed the bargain sale for dresses at “Dress Barn”.

Surprised the Grassley fell for this blatantly unconstitutional bill. Someone should get him a new pair of glasses that work so that he can read the damned thing before he votes.

As for the other Demos who voted for it, no surprise. They’d vote for Satan if he said his name was just that of a new perfume. Some people are just born stupid to the core.
