Writer Ryan Moore was a confirmed lifelong anti-gun liberal. He even tweeted out a request to President Obama to repeal the Second Amendment in 2012.
But one day, Moore was confronted with a situation that changed his entire perspective on guns to the point where he is now a life member of the NRA.
Moore was literally mugged by reality.

There used to be a thing in gun magazines called THE CURSE OF THE GUNNIES in which an anti-gun person was caught committing a crime with a gun. Hoist on their own petard.

It wasn’t actually the mugging that turned him, but building a house, presumably out in the sticks. I’m not sure very many city dwellers quite comprehend the reality of living places where 911 doesn’t mean much.
Leaving a secured apartment complex may have been a factor.
Aren’t all criminals anti-gun and anti-Second Amendment?
An old truism (in form of a joke) is that :

Yep, Carl was definitely the poster boy for that phenomenon. His pro-gun, NRA Board Member son must've been adopted! ;-)
Sadly, a lot of liberals believe that the way to keep guns out of the hands of the bad guys is to disarm the good guys.
Moore utterly abdicated his obligation to protect himself, his loved ones, and other citizens from criminals. He should fall down on his knees and be thankful no one was hurt or killed.
As a liberal, he refused to acknowledge that there exist ‘out there’ some truly sh*tty animals on two legs.
What a lot of anti-firearm people don’t realize is that there is no reasoning with a nervous or impaired assailant. Even if 911 is minutes away, they’ll be the longest couple of minutes one has ever experienced.
It perhaps has to do with the leftard/libtard mantra that no one is responsible (except those who don’t believe as they do - for everything).
If you own a gun then you might be called on to use it - to protect yourself, your family, your friends, a stranger, your country ... TOO MUCH RESPONSIBILITY
Problems happen when you dare take any action (if something goes wrong you are to blame), so it is to be avoided — exactly as the leftists controlling their minds want the sheep to think - as the ‘state’ (really the power hungry leftists) Collective will take care of everything (or not, but endlessly say they do), and that is the ONLY entity which is ‘right’ to make decisions.
Its a stupidity that lead to the gulags/killing fields/concentration camps once the populace/public has been disarmed — a situation when noone can anymore say ‘NO’ (again EXACTLY as the freedom-hating leftists seek).
I think you’re onto something here. The State wants all comrades to leave everything to the commissariat.
