Actress Natalie Portman's initially stated reason for canceling a scheduled trip to Israel to receive the prestigious Genesis Prize was that she didn't want to "appear as endorsing Benjamin Netanyahu," who was also scheduled to appear at the event. But her reason seems to have changed throughout the process.
Portman's decision to skip the event organized in her honor was first announced last Thursday by the Genesis Prize Foundation, which said it was notified by Portman's representative that "she does not feel comfortable participating in any public events in Israel" because "recent events in Israel have been extremely distressing to her." Portman came out on Friday to say the foundation "mischaracterized" her decision.
"I chose not to attend because I did not want to appear as endorsing Benjamin Netanyahu, who was to be giving a speech at the ceremony," Portman said on Friday. "Like many Israelis and Jews around the world, I can be critical of the leadership in Israel without wanting to boycott the entire nation."
Correspondence between the foundation and Portman obtained by Hadashot news in Israel reveals, however, that Portman's initial reason for concern was the clashes in Gaza.
"Actress Natalie Portmans representatives originally informed the Genesis Prize Foundation she would not attend the award ceremony over recent events in Gazanot over her criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu," Times of Israel reported.
The Genesis Foundation "went out of its way to accommodate Portman's concerns about Netanyahu," according to JewishInsider, which says the foundation told Portman she wouldn't have to sit with him, wouldn't be presented the award by him, and was free to say anything she wanted during the event. Portman insisted Netanyahu be uninvited from the event, which was "a bridge too far" for the foundation, according to the report.
Portman's representatives reportedly pushed Genesis to say a "scheduling conflict" forced it to cancel the event rather than blame Portman. Her team continued to say scheduling was the main issue following the Genesis announcement on Thursday.
Known as the Jewish Nobel.
Portman’s explanation for turning down the honor keep changing by the day.
Good riddance.
Cue Hildabeasts wandering Boob loving eyes.
Sorry she’s an Israeli and Israel says they’re sorry she is.
How is this anti-talent famous?
She cannot act.
She’s not very attractive.
I understand that she’s supposed to be brilliant, but she sounds dead inside when she talks.
I guess Harvey got to her right after she was in “The Professional”.
Nasty Porthole ALERT!
“Shes not very attractive”
I agree.

Nothing quite as empty as a Godless Israeli.
On the other hand, nothing is quite as stirring to the heart as a Jew that loves God.
Does she come from a wealthy or influential family?
Maybe that’s part of the effort to bestow honors upon her.
I know Natalie directed Hollywood legend Lauren Bacall in a 2008 movie. This was Natalie’s first directing effort. How does that happen? Lauren was said to have disliked Natalie, and didn’t have a very high opinion of her directing skills.
Off Topic: Lauren Bacall was a cousin of Shimon Peres, a former president of Israel.

I think I do not like her or her attitude. Sounds like a spoiled brat and very entitled to her own “power”. Not a role model for any woman or man, for that matter.
Padme Amidala has gone to the Dark Side.
She can go into Gaza and hurl stones into Israel with a slingshot or fire some rockets out of the UN school yard...
The Jews need to excommunicate her. (I know they don’t do that, but wish they did)

Thank you; I wasnt aware of that fact.
Natalie Portman outta hang out with the arabs and see how Israel is treated. She would be killed right after she is raped by a dozen gentle arabs.
She thought that by turning down the prize she would be cool and popular by attributing this to Bibi. Hey, Jewess! The State of Israel, where you were born is offering you a high honor, take it, say thanks (todah) and shut up.
Natalie Who? Or is it whom?
