Waffle House has continued to have a gun-free zone policy. Here is a statement that Waffle House issued in October 2015 after an attack that was stopped outside their restaurant by a permit holder

“All that matters are profits and low premiums for insurance liability. They couldn’t care less if the law abiding are able to defend themselves.”

Could be the; ahem, “official”policy says one thing, simply to avoid high premiums.

I conceal carry everywhere I go, have not had any problems from any establishments/business. Then again I live in Texas.

Our local Waffle House has had a sign saying something about "Only properly licensed guns ..." being allowed.

Like with most such signs, I just keep mine concealed and use the "Don't ask, don't tell..." method....

What’s interesting to me is that WH is spread all over the South, probably the most ‘gun friendly and gun accepting’ region in the country.
I don’t know that places that ban CCW, even stops people from bringing guns into establishments, doesn’t stop me. But, then again, if you’re doing it right, then no one will know, anyway.

Never seen a ‘no gun’ sign at any Waffle House down this way. Difference is corporate owned/operated and franchise operations.

Bob, that woman your are thinking of is Suzanna Gratia Hupp. Both of her parents were murdered that day and she made it her mission to get concealed carry passed in TX. As the former National Director of Operations for Second Amendment Sisters, I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Suzanna on many occasions. She and Mari Thompson (aka Basil on FR), President of SAS were very good friends. Here's some more info about her:

Suzanna Gratia Hupp, DC (born September 28, 1959), is a former Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives, who represented traditionally Democratic[citation needed] District 54 (Bell, Burnet, and Lampasas counties) for ten years from 1997–2007. After surviving the Luby's shooting in 1991, Hupp became a leading advocate of an individual's right to carry a concealed weapon. Hupp was elected to her first of five consecutive terms in 1996. She did not seek a sixth two-year term in 2006. She has also written a book called From Luby’s to the Legislature: One Woman’s Fight Against Gun Control, published by Privateer Publications, San Antonio, Texas.

None of the ones that I’ve been in in South Carolina have any “no guns” signs posted. And if they don’t have the proper sign posted it’s not illegal to carry. They can’t claim that we’re supposed to know “corporate policy”.

I know where I won’t eat. Eating down range at a shooting gallery isn’t smart.

Was in a Waffle House in TX last Thursday at 5am. 12 customers counting myself. Four were clearly carrying.

Agreed in principle. However, being given license to enter on the premise that I disarm is immoral and unacceptable, espc. if they then do not post armed security.

One reason why I love being a MO resident- CCW permit overrides such postings and provides for remedy if my concealed weapon is found out. I can leave. If I refuse, and a peace officer is called, I can be ticketed. Citation.

Now, a non-permitted person exercising constitutional carry is subject to felony charges.....

Outstanding! It seems like getting minor things done in the Texas House is a major undertaking, thanks to its sell-out leadership - but this lady pulled it off with Concealed Carry...very impressive!

These silly bans are meaningless. Its called CONCEALED Carry for a reason. Unless you announce to the world that you are carrying , then no one knows. If some dickhead comes in shooting an you have to use your gun to save your self or family then the fact that you violated a ignorant company policy is less then meaningless!

In light of recent events think I'm going to avoid Waffle House in the future. Have only been to a few in my life time.

Stayed in a motel in Louisville 4 yrs ago with a Waffle house across the parking lot, had breakfast there a few times, food/value was decent. However, noticed 3 out of 4 nights during the stay police vehicles at the site because of problems.

. Now they have been in national news twice the last week. I can handle the topless woman, however, a nude dude shooting an AK-47 is more than I want to touch, I'M AVOIDING Waffle House in the future.

And you have the right of having your company sued for not providing adequate security for your customers. Goes both ways.

“If they notice I’m carrying, they can get the vapors and ask me to leave. No problem.”

That’s the correct action. Here in Illinois we’ve noticed a surprising lack of the legally require signage, even at these chains which supposedly ban guns on their premises.

So Mrs. L and I carefully check to see if the sign meets the requirements of Illinois law. If it does, we ignore it, mostly. If it doesn’t we pay it no mind whatsoever.

Our local Target, for instance, fails to display the legally required sign. So for all their public bleating and virtue signaling, we stroll right in on those rare occasions we shop there at all. The same holds true for Costco, Whole Foods, Buffalo Wild Wings, etc.

Concealed means just that, after all.

I actually have a theory that this is done purposefully, using incorrect signage I mean. That way they can mollify the bed wetters while those of us who know the law can arm ourselves anyway.

L
