Net Neutrality Won't Disappear on Monday — Here's Why

Parts of the Federal Communication Commission’s repeal of net neutrality is slated to take effect on April 23, causing worry among internet users who fear the worst from their internet service providers. However, many experts believe there won’t be immediate changes come Monday, but that ISPs will wait until users aren’t paying attention to make their move.

In December, the Republican-led FCC repealed net neutrality protections that were first set up under the Obama Administration. The repeal did away with rules that inhibited ISPs from slowing down access or prioritizing their own content, and quickly became a point of contention with consumer advocacy groups. According to a copy of the order published in the Federal Register, the rollback can kick off 60 days after publication, or April 23.

“Don’t expect any changes right out of the gate,” Dary Merckens, CTO of Gunner Technology, tells Inverse. Merckens specializes in JavaScript development for government and business, and sees why ISPs would want to lay low for a while before enacting real changes. “It would be a PR nightmare for ISPs if they introduced sweeping changes immediately after the repeal of net neutrality,” he says.

I can make an argument that the Internet is broken.... and has been broken for over a decade.

There is a sizeable segment of the internet users who want it to remain a wild west adventure.... because they want unregulated, untraceable mayhem that they can take advantage of. Hackers, spammers, VOIP phone scammers, all of these folks want a wild west environment with no government involvement nor oversight.

There is a competing element that want the government to take it over and control everything.

Got to be a happy medium. The hacking, spamming and VOIP abuses have to be curbed, but big business can’t take over and control everything.

The internet wasn't broken until 2015 when obama and Soros imposed their stupid 400 pages of government regulations and communism they called "net neutrality". That was needed like most need another hole in the ground. Actually for the previous 20 years the internet made most of the information in the world easily accessible for the first time in history to average people that they never had before. there was nothing wrong with the Inernet and in fact grew more and advanced human knowledge , information tech etc. more than anything ever before . so why was this so bad you needed communists like Soros to throw monkey wrenches into it?

It makes the carriers who maintain the physical infrastructure subservient to the online behemoths and bars them from charging more for the extra data they dump into the pipeline, and removes any incentive to build more bandwidth. It’s anti-market and will create a shortage."

This “net neutrality” allowed facebook, google youtube, twitter etc. to keep out competition better so that they could maintain their monopoly and censor the Internet. This was their plan.It's amazing how many conservatives even on this forum were fooled by the propaganda and lies:

net neutralty makes the problems you point out worse not better as government always makes things worse. They wanted to cripple the ISps not the internet the ISPs like century link, comcast etc. This was to enable Google facebook and other marxist entities to have a stronger monopoly and so spy on All Americans and on you and censor all Americans better.

If anybody wants protection for now there is something called epic privacy browser that blocks tracking . there are other solutions vpns, proxies, anti virus, linux privacy distributions etc. As long as you have freedom of information you can find solutions like protections against governments and google and facebook. Their net neutrality was to enable facebook etc. and the government to spy on Americans and you better.
