Mitt Romney did not win the Utah Republican Party's nomination on Saturday, meaning he must compete in a June primary election as he seeks to replace retiring US Sen. Orrin Hatch.
After a wild and raucous day of voting at the Utah GOP convention, the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee was unable to win the 60% that he needed to head to the November ballot unopposed. When none of the 12 candidates were able to cross that threshold, the party continued with successive rounds of caucus voting until one candidate reached 40%.
On the second round of voting, Utah state representative Mike Kennedy emerged in the lead with 50.88%. Romney came in a close second with 49.12%.
Romney and Kennedy will now compete in a primary set for June 26.
After the vote, Romney said he was looking forward to a primary race. "This is terrific for the people of Utah, and I really want to thank the delegates who stayed so late to give me the kind of boost that I got here today," Romney said, standing on the convention floor after the proceedings were adjourned. "We're going to have a good primary.

YES! Im not from Utah, but I do NOT want this creepy guy in Congress!

Indeed. I will forgive a lot of things - say, Ted Cruz’s behavior during the primaries, because at least he has the excuse that he was running against Trump. Romney came out on his lame little one-man anti-Trump crusade with the sole aim of denying us our chosen candidate because he’s not some pre-formed molded suit like Romney is. To hell with him, everything he is and everything he stands for.
RINO Newly elected Rep. John Curtis got 59%, faces primary with conservative Chris Herrod.
G2 on Utah State Rep. Michael Kennedy, This is where he lives:
Alpine is part of the ProvoOrem, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area.
As of the census of 2010, there were 9,555 people, 1,662 households, and 1,545 families residing in the city. The population density was 992.1 people per square mile (383.2/km²). There were 1,734 housing units at an average density of 240.7 per square mile (93.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.40% White, 0.18% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 1.41% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.60% of the population.
Demographically it is definitely White! I can’t imagine what America would be like with a Latino population being only 1.6%. Sure would be a shortage of gardeners and welfare recipients I’d have to believe. Maybe folks in Utah mow their own lawns, and clean their own homes.
Yeah it’s hilarious.
“Looks like Kennedy may be a good Mormon with Michigan credentials, as well.”
“Kennedy earned his BS from Brigham Young University, his MD from Michigan State University, and his JD from Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School. Kennedy lives in Alpine, Utah, where he works as a family doctor for Premier Family Medical Group.”
So he’s a practicing doctor with a law degree.
And you can be a god, too. With your own planet! Let me show you some really swell magic undergarments...
A lot or Mormons do not like Romney one bit.
.....”After the vote, Romney said he was looking forward to a primary race”....
Oh I bet! LOLOLOL.
It makes me snicker too. The GOPe is slowly getting booted. To hell with every one of the two-faced, rat-bastards.
... just chuckling here!...Kinda like Hillary he is!..Just doesn’t get it he’s old news.
IF Romney gets the nomination whoever runs against him will be elected ... once his money laundering involvement comes out. The democrats hold the ammo.
Romney said ‘Saturday’ he hasn’t decided whether he’ll endorse the president’s 2020 re-election bid........He’s a rat indeed!
I still believe that sumbitch lost on purpose in 2012.
He may have time to try yet another state if he loses in June.
I think Romney still wins the Utah Senate election.
Romney has the $$$ to win.
He has connections and he will be a two-term senator.
The party establishment has been holding the GOP hostage for years. We know for certain that neither Willard nor McQueeg had any intention of using the “nuclear option” to win in 2008 or 2012. They only use THAT method against Conservatives. No, indeed, they were in the race to make sure no Conservative got the nomination, and hence, the election.
After all, we already know McQueeg himself was set to bolt the GOP in 2004 and wanted to run with Lurch as his VP. Lurch told him the Dem base wouldn’t stand for it. As it was, McQueeg wanted Lieberman as his running mate in 2008 and had to be told the same thing that the base wouldn’t stand for it.
They’re all Deep Staters, rotten and corrupt to the core. That’s why they hate Trump so much. The Bushes, too. It’s frightening to realize there have only been 3 individuals since the FDR era (post-1932) that were non-establishment nominees: Goldwater (’64), Reagan (’80/’84) and Trump.
None of the Democrat candidates in Utah can beat either Romney OR Kennedy. It is a safe R seat in the Senate...
If he couldn’t roll the convention into believing he isn’t a corrupt Deep State leftist, he’s going to have just as difficult a time with primary voters. He’s a fraud and a loser and he’s only running to sabotage President Trump in the Senate.
I think he still wants to be President.
Romney is a putz...
