Washington, DC Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06) today sent a letter, along with several colleagues, to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and US Attorney John Huber, asking them to investigate several Obama-era officials for potential violation(s) of federal statutes. These officials include former FBI Director James Comey, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, former Acting Director of the FBI Andrew McCabe, FBI Agent Peter Strzok and FBI Counsel Lisa Page, among others.
Read the criminal referral here. The following members have joined DeSantis in this call for equal application of the law: Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Dave Brat (VA-07), Jeff Duncan (SC-03), Matt Gaetz (FL-01), Paul Gosar (AZ-04), Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), Jody Hice (GA-10), Todd Rokita (IN-04), Claudia Tenney (NY-22), and Ted Yoho (FL-03).
The political elite are not immune from the rule of law, and those in positions of high authority should be treated the same as any other American, DeSantis said. If former officials, including Hillary Clinton and James Comey, broke the law then they need to be held accountable. We ask that the Department of Justice move swiftly to ensure that violations of federal statutes by high officials are identified and prosecuted.
The American people are tired of the Clintons and their friends being held to a different standard than the rest of us. They want justice done, Brat said. I hope the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation can investigate these claims and learn where laws were broken and respond accordingly.
Justice must be handed down fairly and equally, especially if you are in a position of trust and authority. I believe we must look into the multiple wrongdoings of government officials during the 2016 Presidential Campaign to guarantee to the American people that justice matters, said Duncan.
The investigations into the Hillary Clinton and the Presidential Campaign revealed egregious levels of misconduct and mishandling of sensitive information, said Gosar. The actions of these government officials outlined in our letter point to evidence of corruption and possible treason. Its time these unelected bureaucrats stop hiding behind their titles and start being held to the same standards as every other American.
Justice must be blind, not partisan. We must conduct a thorough investigation into the potential abuses of power for politically motivated reasons committed by Justice Department and FBI officials. The American people deserve the truth, and if necessary, our justice system must be held accountable to the very same laws it is charged to enforce, Harris said.
While I will continue to call for the appointment of a second special counsel, Im pleased that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has taken the critical first step in directing U.S. Attorney John Huber to delve deeper into the abuse and misconduct at the DOJ and FBI. Together with fellow House members, Im asking Attorney General Sessions, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and U.S. Attorney John Huber to specifically examine potential criminal wrongdoing by several individuals, including, but not limited to, James Comey, Hillary Clinton, Loretta Lynch, and others. At the end of the day, we have a responsibility to ensure equal justice under the law without exception, said Hice.
We are a country of laws, and we cannot allow those in high authority positions in government who flagrantly violate our laws walk away without fully answering to the American people, said Rokita. That is why I fully support Rep. DeSantiss call for an investigation against officials who have disregarded our federal statutes.
Obama-era officials in the Justice Department have failed the American people, Tenney said. Through their negligence, Hillary Clinton and her allies have yet to be held accountable for potential serious violations of our federal laws. This lack of oversight and transparency empowers the bad behavior of the corrupt political class and its why the American people have lost trust in those who have taken an oath to honorably serve them. The political class must be treated as any other American citizen. Enforcing subpoenas detailed in this letter will ensure officials are finally held accountable for their actions.
The people who serve in the highest levels of government should not be immune to justice, said Yoho. It is important that we fight corruption at all levels to protect the American people and the institutions that serve them.
Investigations have been going on all along. This is to educate and inform the public. To let them know that crimes were committed so it isn't a total shock when the indictments come down. Most people still don't know what's going on behind the scenes.
Doesn’t mean anything unless the DOJ acts on it.
Drain the Swamp - bump for later...
Schneiderman is a filthy weasel. Period.
McCabe violated “FBI Offense Code 2.6 (Lack of Candor Under Oath)”. Not a Federal Criminal Statute.
I wish you were right, believe me. But McCabe was dismissed which is the max penalty for violating that FBI code.
Contrast that to Flynn’s treatment for ‘lack of candor’ to the FBI.
We will NOT be a country of laws (again?) until this long list of scumbags is in jail
Most of them for the rest of their sorry lives
Some of them, including Hussein, should have their lives shortened
If they need any volunteers for the many firing squads that will be needed, Ill be glad to step up first. Enemies both foreign and domestic applies.
We all hope there is something going on behind the scenes.
Four months ago I said I’d give Sessions six months to start indicting. Two months left. Hope I’m right.
I think you just said that you are easily manipulated.
If we have 3 or more confirmed Arkancides, you bet!
I like DeSantis (hes my rep) and Ive known about him practically since his first county beginnings. I live in North Florida near Jacksonville, which is the fastest growing city in the US and the most conservative city in Florida.
The Florida GOP is very uneven - much of the state is very conservative, but the northerners bring in a whole different vibe. And South Florida ranges from very conservative Cubans to total nutcase gays, so its a hard state to govern.
Scott is rarely seen but hes done a good job. Jeb Bush was more visible, and while people on FR hate him, he did a great job (I know, things went downhill after that...). So while Scotts not a personality figure in terms of his popularity, I think hed be a good Senator and I hope he endorses DeSantis as Governor.
DeSantis is more personable, very practical, and I think would make a great Governor of Florida.
But...But, None of them broke the law intentionally! No REASONABLE prosecutor would prosecute these cases.(/S)
All he did was LIE like these same dirtbags!!
Newt Gingrich responds to James Comey's reaction to President TRUMP pardoning Scooter Libby
If he does there are going to be a whole lot of people chowing down on crow around here.
DeSantis is leaving congress this year to run for the vacated gov seat in Florida currently held by Scott. He is getting much blow back from the inbred GOP in Florida which is pounding him with ridicules ads before the primary.
Yep. And the GOPe didn’t spend a dime to help repeal Obamacare or support POTUS on DACA.
Pardon me for being EXTREMELY cynical, but I’ll believe this when I see some serious perp walks or am astounded by flying cars, which ever happens first.
Nice letter, lots of prison time called for, doubt anything will happen. Damn it!!
Fox News introduces the story by saying this seems to be retribution for Comey’s book tour - thereby painting the whole thing as trivial nonsense.
Uh, huh.
If Sessions wakes up and does what he should be doing I, for one, most certainly WON’T “eat crow” because he’s absolutely SUCKED as Attorney General for the last year +.
