A New Orleans resident has received several speeding tickets over the past few years for racing through town at the blistering speed of ... 0 mph.
Donald Schulz says hes been issued at least 10 citations since 2011 for having his pickup truck legally parked along Canal Boulevard. The street has a 35 mph speed limit and a stationary traffic camera on the median.
Its a nuisance; I've had to take time out of my day several times and go down there and correct the situation, Schulz told Fox News. It got so bad that years ago I even had a [telephone] number of a person [in the traffic violations office] so that if I called them directly I didnt have to go down there.
...
This problem probably exist all throughout the city, Schulz said. When I went down there in 2013, an elderly gentleman was in the same situation.
The city government told 4WWL that Schulzs most recent ticket was dropped and that the contractor that handles the tickets will have its employees properly trained to manage the data it receives from the camera.

These were banned years ago in Minneapolis on the grounds that they are unconstitutional.
They are a fundraiser, nothing else.

Might want to do that BEFORE you put them in charge of demanding money from people.

Boss Hogg could have used these cameras in “The Dukes of Hazzard”.
A few miles from in the little town of San Anselmo, I know of at least two homeowners who have been ticketed for parking all night in front of their own house.
The hourly parking rules are so strict in that area. Many people drive down from Santa Rosa, and use the Marin neighborhood to park their cars before taking a ferry boat or a bus to San Francisco.
“I know of at least two homeowners who have been ticketed for parking all night in front of their own house.”
Commonly done in some areas, including mine during the winter.

Some cars just look fast!
What race are the car owners in the Chocolate City(tm) ?
I just read an article about South Lake Tahoe where visitors are getting $1000 tickets just stopping to unload luggage in front of their rental houses (B&B rentals). Cops are not permitted to give warnings, full $1000 tickets are mandatory. South Lake Tahoe government says they need the money. Local government out of control everywhere and stiffing people.
Well from the standpoint of the parked car light to t camera is going very fast!
I used to live in San Anselmo, in the Sixties and early Seventies.
That’s mean and greedy. That (no warning $1000. ticket) will cause a lot of people to direct their anger at the cops. The police are only doing their jobs. That would produce a bad memory for some, and make them not wish to return the next year. Local Govt. simply needs better management of public funds, meaning a few salary reductions here and there.
The Bus Hub near Sir Francis Drake is still here, as is the St. Anslem Church on Shady Lane, near Ross,Ca.
If local govt cared about return visitors more than robbing them via “legal” laws that exist solely for govt to rob people, they would not be doing this.
A very welcoming community. God help the poor employees of local shops. And the shop owners.
Disclaimer: I got this idea off the internet!
When our mayor put in the stoplight and speed cameras it was supposed to be only in school zones. But he got greedy and had them installed all over. So a couple of us made fake license plates with his number on them and sped through several red lights. It took almost a year before it sufficiently annoyed him and had them removed.
I’m a railroad history guy, there are lots of fantastic pics out there of the Hub from when it was a mostly railroad thing.
I used to live on Fawn Dr., off of Butterfield.
Cops just doing their jobs...
The law does not remove a personal moral responsibility. Even for these much vaunted and heroic officers. Natural Law demands justice. For all of us. Frightening as that cheerful thought is. This world is corrupted and evil. That is why Jesus died on the cross. For our many sins, sins conversed and willful. But justice bloody justice inevitably occurres. History is replete with injustices inflicted to right injury. Hence good moral government averts evil and cycles of violence.
Butterfield is a very nice residential area. Lots of tall old trees. Lots of well maintained (not fancy) homes. The road goes up a grassy hill toward one end of it.
