GOP congressman: 'Most of the public' doubts Assad used chemical gas
Washington Examiner ^ | April 13, 2018

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., says he believes a majority of the public doubts the official U.S. government contention that Syrian President Bashar Assad used chemical gas against the final rebel-held town near Damascus.

“Anybody who has tried to explain to me why Assad would do this sounds like a conspiracy theorist,” said Massie, a libertarian Republican from Kentucky. “It requires really contorted thinking to think Assad did this. You have to come up with very complicated reasons.”

“I cannot think of a reason he would,” Massie said.

Please listen to this obvious argument. Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the U.S. Constitution grants Congress the power to declare war. The President, meanwhile, derives the power to direct the military after a Congressional declaration of war from Article II.
There is nothing that removes this absolute requirement for war. For example , there is no exemption for alleged use of Chemical weapon.
Bombing Syria/Russia/ Iran IS AN ACT OF WAR!!
New let me show you that this principle is accepted. Vietnam had the “gulf on Tonkin” resolution albeit based on an absolute lie. In Iraq Congress FIRST passed the
Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002.
The President has no authority to put us in a WAR without Congress declaring WAR!! I DEMAND that Trump bring any scrap of evidence that would support( and there is none) the war in Syria to our elected representative for FORMAL!! approval. Any other use of force is ILLEGAL and blatantly unconstitutional. We are not the world policeman, This is not about AMERICA. this is sticking our nose in other sovereign nations business and ONE WORLD CRAP!! What happened to the Donald Trump we voted for??

“Why are there so many Assad apologists?!”

Because he was a decent guy and still is basically. He is light years better than any other Arab national leader.
Women could choose a career, drive, marry or divorce as they pleased, dance, sing, or wear any clothing they pleased... including a bikini on Latakia beach. People could drink alcohol, beer and wine. You could be a Christian, Jew, or any kind of moslem. They had elections.

Compare all of that to Saudi Arabia.

".... GOP congressman: 'Most of the public' doubts Assad used chemical gas ...."

..... First off ... Decisions and Policy should never be made based solely on public opinion .... Secondly .... If you notice, however ... Something has suddenly changed over the past few days to the point that the President has drastically shifted his tone about quick retribution. It could very well have something to do with solid Intel coming from assets on the ground forcing that shift.

Also happens when there are supposed to finally be cabal arrests here.

Also prior rebel chemical attack over a year ago blamed on Assad.

Since 165,000 East Ghouta residents were liberated by the Syrian army and 1,000’s of Jaish al Islam terrorists & their families were in the process of relocation to Idlib, it is patently obvious that this was a staged event. The very day after Trump said the US was leaving Syria very soon.

They lied before. They were mistaken before. Also do not forget that some in the intel community have been working with Jihadist terrorists in Syria & they have a conflict of interest in this matter.

“Why are there so many Assad apologists?!”

Why are there so many people who think it’s the business of the US Government to militarily intervene in countries that pose no threat to the USA?

Hitler didn’t pose a threat to the US, so you would have said the same to those objecting to his killing Jews? Concentration camps, gassing people. Not our problem, ignore it? What happened to Never Again? What happened to the world community, including the US, which said no to chemical weapons in 1925? Do you really say it is now okay to gas people? Seriously?

So how many American lives are you willing to risk to punish Assad?

Can you even prove that he did this and not the Rebels?

“Bashar Assad is a despot, who has more than sufficiently demonstrated his blood lust, and the inclination to murder his own people - “
You have absolutely no proof of that statement. That is called “demonization” it works on the very unsophisticated and simple minded. it is PROPAGANDA. It does not work here. We seek to review proven facts— not conjecture and surmise. Now since it was “more than sufficiently demonstrated that he has “blood lust” and —Murdered his own people— Lay it out right here and right now or take your tinfoil off.

The Axis Powers did pose a threat to the US, that's why we ultimately did go to war. FDR made the clear case for going to war in his "Arsenal of Democracy" speech, although it took Pearl Harbor to get us into it.

But by your standard, we would have gone to war with Germany after Krystallnacht.

“Why are there so many Assad apologists?!”

Why are there so many Al-Qaeda and ISIS apologists?

Why do so many yearn to see the secular Assad ousted in favor of a radical Islamist State?

Better yet, why is any of this our business?
