Senate Republicans Growing Anxious About Their Majority
nationaljournal ^ | 04/10/2018 | Josh Kraushaar

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell didn’t break much news when he acknowledged that Republicans are facing the possibility of a major wave election threatening their congressional majorities. But his public statement was an unmistakable sign that he considers the GOP’s Senate majority, once seen as untouchable because of the historically favorable map, under serious threat as President Trump’s political troubles worsen.

Leading GOP Senate strategists now worry that Democrats won’t necessarily need a perfect storm to net the two seats necessary to win back a majority—just enough lackluster GOP campaigns and a little bad luck along the way. And while Republicans celebrated Gov. Rick Scott’s long-anticipated entrance into the Florida Senate race on Monday, they are clear-eyed about the underwhelming caliber of their candidates in many other critical races.

In Missouri, state Attorney General Josh Hawley has disappointed in his Senate campaign debut, struggling to raise early cash, keeping a low-key schedule, and fending off scrutiny over his ties to scandal-plagued GOP Gov. Eric Greitens. Republicans have been concerned that they could blow a winnable race against Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia if a convicted felon (Don Blankenship) ends up as their nominee—an all-too-real possibility. In Ohio, Sen. Sherrod Brown is shrewdly capitalizing on Rep. Jim Renacci’s free-trade record to win back the blue-collar Democratic voters who defected to Trump’s side in the last election. Sen. Jon Tester of Montana has looked vulnerable, but Republicans aren’t bullish about the candidates running against him.

Dems will be more cooperative on Trade than the Repukes who will stand by Trump more once they’re in the minority. Much better pretenders that leaders

“You should have gone nuclear against the communists in the Senate and stood by Trump from day one of beating all the others in the Republican field!”

Yep, and don’t think that won’t be the first thing the dems do. If we screw around and lose the senate, they will impeach Trump and the war goes hot.

These are the same pollsters and pundits that for two years said that Trump didn’t have a chance. Man up for crying out loud.

Why should they be worried? It’s not like they did a whole lot with the majority they have now. I honestly see no difference with them in control. The Dems still get everything they want and we get the high hard one.

McConnell is just as rich, just as cozy and comfortable in the minority, even more so as he has none of the responsibility.

It’s time to march on Washington for a number of good reasons.

Donald Trump’s appeal — especially among Republicans — is often overestimated in a lot of these places.

Nonsense. Trump crushed the field during the primaries on his way to a record setting number of votes.

We can only hope! I don’t know how he got in except for Louisville. They will keep him in because of defense contracts.

Mother McCaskill has $12 million cash on hand. Including $4 million so far this year! More on the way. Hollywood. Unions. Feminist groups. Usual suspects. And the fight has only begun...

Look at this map of the 2016 primary results for the GOP. Two things should stand out to you:

1. Trump lost some of the most conservative states in the U.S. between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains.

2. Trump won a lot of states in the GOP primary that ended up voting for Hillary Clinton in the general election. Winning these states in the primary not only did nothing for Trump in the general election, but it also says nothing about GOP prospects in 2018 U.S. Senate races in these places.

There are no “dems” in the Senate. There are only communists, who will not compromise. They will not stray from their global communist agenda. There will be no debate with them. They do not care about our children! They do not respect the rule of law! They do not love our country! They have proven already that they will kill us.

If it goes hot so be it.

Plus she's about as cunning as they come. There's a rumor floating around the state that GOP leadership is having buyers remorse on Hawley. Some say that it's McCaskill's camp that is spreading it. Hawley is a babe in the woods compared to her.

If they actually cared about that they would not have been obstructing Trump for the last 15 months.

McConnell is another sold-out pol (in this case via his Chinese wife) who believes in “leading from behind”.

The GOP “majority” has turned out to be worthless, except for the admittedly big tax cut.

Senate Republicans Growing Anxious About Their Majority

The GOP has committed suicide by not backing MAGA.

Yes, yes, I know the Democrats are worse. It is a defect of a "two party" configuration that kicking the bums out involves replacing them with the other guys.

But, throwing in with Trump's hostile takeover of the dysfunctional, collapsing GOP was their last chance, and they have failed, decisively. They think they can run on "Oh, noes! The Democrats are bad!" and slip into comfortable minority status with their hated enemy (Trump) out of the way.

I suspect it will be much worse.

When the Canadians decided to kick out the Tories in 1993, they went from 169 seats and a majority to TWO (2) seats.

This scale of wipeout is by no means out of the question for these lying, corrupt, despicable Republicans.

It is very, very unfortunate, given the nature of the Left in this country, but the last eighteen months have demonstrated that nothing at all can be built on a foundation of Republicans.

It's time for them to go.

The GOP has every reason to be frightened. Many have been WORTHLESS as conservative representatives and need to be sent packing. Finding competent replacements is a daunting task but there are those out there that could do the job. Problem is the good ones have no intentions of joining that circus of clowns, they are too busy making an honest living.
