Trump executive order strengthens work requirements for neediest Americans

President Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order directing federal agencies to strengthen existing work requirements and introduce new ones for low-income Americans receiving Medicaid, food stamps, public housing benefits and welfare as part of a broad overhaul of government assistance programs.

The order directs federal agencies to review all policies related to current work requirements as well as exemptions and waivers and report back to the White House with recommendations within 90 days.

“Welfare reform is necessary to prosperity and independence,” said Andrew Bremberg, assistant to the president and director of Trump’s domestic policy council.

Excellent! Trump is still getting his agenda across, despite all the attacks on him.

Work requirement for welfare recipients is good for at least two reasons:

-- helps them get trained and into the work force

-- eliminates the lazy bums who don't want to work, just live off the rest of us who do work and pay taxes.

Wow! What a concept, you have to work to get money and benefits. What these bums need is a swift kick in the rear and make them work. Try breaking out concrete with steel wire reinforcement in the hot summer sun. Talk about learning the value of work. If I could do it when I was younger, these able bodied young men who want to live off the fat of the land and make me pay taxes can get off their lazy rear ends too.

They wouldn’t be “needy” if they’d get a friggin’ job like everybody else.

I think he’s addressing the move to license many jobs in states. It’s a revenue enhancer for the states, and I’m not sure it’s much else in many instances.

There are many jobs out there that require a license before you can work.

The stupid thing is, for many of these jobs there’s no real reason for licensing. Most of what the employee needed to know to work could be explained in 30 to 60 minutes on the job.

No, instead, these folks need to sign on to a college or business school course taking 4 to 8 months to complete.

I am a firm believer in apprentice type education, where you learn from others on the job.

If I understand this correctly, it appears Trump is trying to reduce hurdles people face trying to enter the work force.

Good, it may also undercut the marxists argument that we need more workers, hence illegal and high immigration quotas. I’m praying that Rep. Tom Cotton gets going on the Bill to reduce LEGAL immigration as well.

Institute for Justice is fighting this. Something like a third of professions now have licensing requirements.

Those in the profession with certifications benefit from the 10% higher wages due to restricted competition. The problem is the certifying organizations then extorting people with increasing paid education requirements and membership fees.

It’s also supportive of education mills, where kids come in and get government funding to pay for these training centers.

The centers make tons of money directly from the government.

I appreciate you touching on the bump up of wages as a result. I’m sure it does.

If they aren’t working, no wonder they are needy! Pretty tough for folks with the rudimentary thinking ability of the newsmedia to figure this out, though.

Why should this be so scary for the “neediest” Americans.

We “need” more workers with more jobs on the horizon. If you are needy, you don’t always need free food, sometimes you need a good job. Time to be optimistic.

May I be so bold as to ask if anyone has any information about Cincinnatus Wife?

I remember her ubiquitous posts from years ago and I just wondered.

If they would consider something like a $2-5 co-pay for Medicaid bums to go to the Emergency Room it would save those programs Million$. That’s like, the cost of a pack of cigarettes and they’d rather have the smokes.

Work requirement for welfare recipients is good for at least two reasons:

Third reason: flushes out the ones who are collecting welfare while also working off the books. Those will drop out of welfare, rather than having to quit their off-books job.
