President Trump signed an executive order Tuesday for a government-wide review of welfare programs, with a goal of putting more people back to work, White House officials said.
The order directs all federal agencies involved in providing more than $700 billion in low-income assistance annually to study programs that are failing Americans, and to report back in 90 days with recommendations, said White House domestic policy council director Andrew Bremberg.
Our country still struggles from nearly record-high welfare enrollments, Mr. Bremberg said in a conference call with reporters. President Trump endorses reforms that ensure those in need receive assistance, while eliminating the economic stagnation that has resulted from long-term government dependence.
The executive order states that federal policy will be to reform welfare programs to empower people following principles of economic mobility. Those principles include:

Just saying.
If we get in a trade war with China, Americans will need to make a lot of things.
Right here.
:D
Goal #1: Stop rewarding people for popping out babies.
Goal #2: Only basic staple food can be bought with food stamps. No cash back. Ever
If it overlaps a state or local program-zap! Some may very well overlap another Federal one.
They do the “reward for baby” thing a lot here in CA. basically free for illegals. And WHO THE F authorize EBT’S at Burker King. 7-11 and Subway?
Peace Corps and Americorps are welfare programs. Close to a billion annually.
RANDOM drug testing of ALL welfare recipients!
MAGA!
Wow! Never thought I’d live to see the day that somebody in Gov’t acts like an adult and will hold citizens accountable for their choices in life.
Ban Welfare! Ban Sloth! Ban laziness! All are products of liberal-commies.
Liberal scumbags authorize that.
Ban them too!
A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon it starts to add up to real money!
Able bodied people who have no reason to not work should receive a reduction in their cheques every month until, within the span of one year, it’s down to zero, or close.
They can build up their work hours as their money dwindles if they need to ease into it slowly. Or they can just get a job like everyone else and go hungry if they don’t.

Support Free Republic, Folks!
I am so happy President Trump has embraced this idea. Us on the right have been saying this for years.
It is truly a win-win for everyone.
Instead of blowing the SNAP Card on Booze and Smokes you would get a monthly supply of:
50 lbs Bag of Red Beans & Rice
50 lbs Bag of Flour
10 lbs Bag of Powdered Milk
10 lbs Block of Cheese
10 lbs Bologna Log
And just because us Americans are super generous, I propose we also include two 10 lbs Bags of Generic Cheerios and/or USDA Corn Flakes.
There, the poor have just been fed by the Taxpayer.
They are stuck eating beans and rice you say? Think of it this way, every cent you give to the Federal Food Program is bread taken from your Child's mouth.
But of course you aren't suppose to take into account the needs of the people who actually pay for all this.
This has been done innumerable times over the past 50 years. No harm in Trump discovering the issue. The question is, what will be propose? Ain’t a battle here that hasn’t been fought many times over.
MOST of the problem would be solved by a very simple thing...
just give notice to all able-bodied welfare recipients that they have 3 months to either get jobs... or at least sign up for a meaningful job training skills program that will give them in-demand skills to get jobs. I am willing to be generous and give those able of working a short-term opportunity and help to get employment. I am sick and tired of giving able people welfare so they can sit on their fat butts and watch the boobtoob all day.
The money that we save cutting the welfare roles (my estimate... this should cut the welfare rolls by about 3/4 in a year or less)
the money we save should be returned to the taxpayers, after checking to make sure we are assisting the GENUINELY DISABLED enough... I want to help the genuinely disabled...I will pay taxes for this... but all the lazy able=bodied people are sucking up most of our tax money and it is NOT fair, not right...
just my 2 cents. don’t bother writing me about how even the genuinely disabled should not be given any tax money. I understand that. I just don’t agree. thanks tho for your thoughts and I do respect that stricter good-government point of view
Red beans and rice come in a 50lb. bag? Huh! I never knew that, and like a doofus, I’ve been soaking my beans overnight and cooking them in a crock pot, freezing them in sandwich bags to thaw as needed, cooking them on a stove top with flavorings, etc..
“The lessons of history, confirmed by the evidence immediately before me, show conclusively that continued dependence upon relief induces a spiritual disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fiber. To dole our relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit. It is inimical to the dictates of a sound policy. It is in violation of the traditions of America. Work must be found for able-bodied but destitute workers.”
FDR, in his State of the Union address, 1935.
Used to be, “surplus food commodities” were given out.. not EBT credit cards.
I remember rather generous full boxes of (mostly-edible) foods... you could get by just fine on what they gave you.
of course, you probably would not like everything in the box.
but you ate it if you were hungry, and lived just fine.
or you could sometimes trade it for other foods you liked better, people would do some of that. mostly, you just were thankful for all the free goodies...
there was no liquor or cigarettes in the food box. but there were some good (food) items included in the “bulk” stuff.... it was not ALL rice and beans, and you got buy just FINE believe me!
I see nothing at all wrong with your views.
