51. Delaware
Statistics on gun ownership across the U.S. are hard to nail down; the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record is not all-inclusive, and some guns go unregistered.
But "Injury Prevention," a scholarly journal, has released what may be the closest look yet. Their survey, published in 2015, asked a representative sample of 4,000 adults nationwide whether they own firearms. The findings helped the research group estimate gun ownership rates in each state.
Delaware's gun ownership rate is the lowest in the country, at 5.2 percent. That's far below the national average of 29.1 percent.

The idea of “registration” is pretty common. My mother always asks if my guns are “registered,” and I have to explain to her that it’s neither compulsory nor necessary to require it. We still live in a free country for a little while longer.
In WV, it's not even possible ... there's simply no mechanism to "register" your weapons with any state, county, or local authority.
Can you post the list?
Their assumptions are more valid then the actually count? The stupid here is deep and wide.

Any attempt to tell some story with ‘numbers’....is bogus. In some counties in the south, I’d take a guess that there’s four weapons for every single adult in the county.
Delaware is #51 -—Alaska is #1. It’s not presented in a user friendly format for posting as a list. If anyone has it handy, please post it.
Don’t you just love CBS’ perspective, with the photos they show of the guns confiscated by police in various places and what was found near or on Adam Lanza’s person after his rampage at Sandy Hook? They obviously can not bring themselves to mention that areas like Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, the Dakotas, and many others in the United States are very peaceful with very little or no violent crime with many law abiding citizens owning firearms.
It would be better to have a list. This is information that would better show the relationship between gun ownership vs murder rate by guns.
That list cant be accurate. In some states, such as mine, you dont have to register or have a permit to carry. The people most likely to have guns, especially in multiples, arent going to go around telling everyone. Everyone I know of who has one, has more than one.
Even though firearms registration is not required, all the ATF 4473 forms are maintained by all licensed Firearms Dealers indefinitely.
The ATF can at any time compel a dealer to hand them over for review under the guise of an “audit”.
When a dealer sells the business or retires I believe he/she is obligated to hand over all 4473 forms to the ATF.
So there is a “defacto” registration already in existence ... unfortunately.
The numbers are suspect, because I am sure that they believe I own a number of firearms. I have none, due to a recent boating accident. Sorry to report that all were lost.
[4473, etc] True ... and it’s a violation of 2A, along with simply having no constitutional authorization.
But that’s not what ignorami are asking about when they ask if your guns are “registered”.
And before all the boating accidents we had a 94.7% gun ownership rate....I don't even own a boat and lost 12 weapons and 46,000 rounds of ammo....
Hawaii is listed at or near the top. That seems... wrong?
If the caller ID says "Injury Prevention" and the caller asks if someone has a gun (or cash, credit cards or drugs) that's going to be accurate?
I am *extremely* skeptical.
What about the other seven states?
Wow. I am a little surprised that DC has a greater % than Mass.
Of course there are places in MA that are relatively safe. If they counted all of the illegal guns in Springfield, Holyoke, Lowell, lawrence and Worcester...the % would be over 50%! ha ha.
If a family has guns, and were raised with guns in the house, they are members of the Gun Culture.
Conclusion: The only way to destroy the Gun Culture is to steal all the guns and hope the Proles will forget they had Freedom...
When you fill out that 4473, they have your information. If, however, you either purchase privately or have regular unfortunate boating accidents, I suppose the point is moot.
