Patients at the St. John’s Well Child & Family Center in South Los Angeles have recently started asking for copies of their medical records. Some request extra medicine from their doctors, taking home as much as they’ll supply.
“They want to have a stockpile,” clinic Chief Executive Jim Mangia said. “There’s this tremendous fear that on their way to take their kids to school, or on their way to the clinic, or on their way into the store, they’re going to get picked up and deported.”
Healthcare providers say President Trump’s aggressive moves against illegal immigration are posing risks to the health of many Californians, as patients cancel medical appointments or wait until the last minute to seek treatment.
Others are asking to leave public programs because they’re worried their personal information will end up with the federal government. Even more seem to be feeling anxious or depressed because of possible raids, prompting some providers to offer special training to deal with such mental health issues among immigrants.
And the recent anxiety has extended beyond those in the country without legal authorization, health advocates say.
St. John’s, which treats more immigrants who lack legal status than any clinic in the state, often hears from patients who are afraid they’ll run into federal authorities on their way to the clinic, employees said. In the last several months, staff members have practiced forming a human chain around the facility, in case immigration agents do show up one day.
Health advocates say immigrants’ reluctance to seek medical care is a step backward for a state that spent years encouraging people to sign up for health insurance and make regular doctor visits under the Affordable Care Act.

I've said for years that any benefits paid to or on behalf of foreign nationals (here legally or otherwise) should be deducted from any foreign aid to the country of origin. And that all remittances to foreign countries be taxed 20%, the money used to build the WALL. Foreigners other than Mexicans or Central/South Americans may file for rebate of the tax, which is then forwarded to the original recipient.

When you knowingly violate the sovereignty of anothe4r country by using illegal means, and you have to hide from authorities to do it, then you knowingly are breaking the law.
When you use public services designed and measured out for people that are supposed to be here and need help from their country, then you taking it away from the people that are supposed to be here and it is for, and never for you. And that is one of the reasons you shouldn’t be here.
If you have problems in your country, stay there and fix them. We did in our country. We had many indian wars, the revolution, the civil war, the war in Texas, and the problems with things like prohibition. But we worked them out here and are still working on others. You can’t work out your problems there when you are here, hiding. Go home!

Funny I haven’t seen any drop off in the number of illegals I get to treat for free every day. Not only do they continue coming in but they are some of the most demanding impossible to satisfy patients you will ever meet

Fair tax, 15% for everybody adjust to the burden of illegal immigration. That might put a bit of realization in their minds.

As far as foreign aid is concerned? Why are we giving aid to anyone, when we're so far in debt?
I am a dispatcher/reservation agent for a company that schedules travel to and from medical visits.
If I showed you the list of only dialysis patients (3x per week) and what it costs, you guys would rip your hair out. These are public insurance (i.e. medicaid) passengers. For almost all of them, their co-pay for the trip is between $1.00 and $2.00, if there is a co-pay at all.
There is one guy, whose trip is so lucrative, that my drivers have learned to park ON HIS STREET & IN FRONT OF HIS HOME, that we’ve had to change how we dispatch the trip. He starts in the Watts area and goes to a Beverly Hills dialysis center. No idea why. But I do know that this passenger speaks not one single word of English, nor does anyone in his family, when I’ve asked for help.
This is why I distrust the $$ that they claim illegals cost us.
If you only knew....
They can always cross back over to Mexico where they are legal.
This is good news! This is the type of pressure that will cause many to end up self-deporting. Many have said over the years it would be impossible to deport them all. If they don't "feel comfortable" using public programs it is a huge step in the right direction.

My Father-in-law broke 5 ribs and punctured his lung in 3 places in a bad fall. When my wife got him to the ER, it was full of Hispanics there for strep throat.
The only way she got in him in quickly was to tell the desk people “He is having chest pains - it might be heart attack!” (Well, he WAS having chest pains...) Otherwise, he might have been waiting for hours.
Maybe taxpayers and folks with insurance will have a chance at getting quick service now.
Sick? Here’s an aspirin. Got an owie? Here’s a band-aid. Thanks for going back to your country and have a nice day. If that’s all these invaders get you won’t need a wall. No welfare or any benefits. Period.
Great....anyone going to the ER has to first break through the barrier...and good luck finding anyone inside to take care.

If we can create conditions where Mexicans are better off in Mexico they’ll stay there.
Nothing they can do for fat, evidently.
