A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit challenging Massachusetts ban on assault weapons.
U.S. District Judge William Young said in his ruling released Friday that assault weapons and large capacity magazines banned by the state in its 1998 law fall outside the scope of the personal right to bear arms under the Second Amendment.
Young also upheld Democratic Attorney General Maura Healeys enforcement notice to gun sellers and manufacturers clarifying what constitutes a copy or duplicate weapon under the 1998 law.

Dang....a Reagan appointee.
Maybe he just wants to kick it to the SCOTUS.
No such luck. Damn, this state blows.
.
The judge is wrong and needs to be removed for his deep disregard for the constitution, and for the safety of the people.
Free to ban?! On what grounds?!
Guess we can write laws to ban Mosques now for safety purposes.
scope of the personal right to bear arms under the Second Amendment.
Next week it’ll be handguns and the week after that it will be “dangerous sniper rifles” (Bolt-guns)
How sad that the Cradle of Liberty has sunk to such a low point. Of course not all in Colonial America were Patriots, many were neutral and many were Tories.
Another judge redefining the constitution. Should be impeached.

Yes, Islam “falls outside the scope of” a religion.
Can anybody tell me which part of the Second Amendment talks about the “scope” of our personal Right to bear Arms?
“No such luck. Damn, this state blows. “
It certainly does. (sigh)
.
No - its a religion. But some religions are harmful to society and dont need to be practiced.
Whichever ones I say citizen.
That is where it will go .
IMHO, Its more of a political system with a “religious” component for purposes of maintaining adherence to it.
I’m not going to obey these unconstitutional judges or any unconstitutional laws they attempt to impose on me.
To Hell with them.
We should just be glad we’re allowed pea shooters and sling shots.
Ummm, on the sling shot thing, last I knew in NYS you need a permit for a wrist-braced sling shot. I can’t tell you how much safer I feel because of that.
SNORT.
Indeed. The scion of the paternal side of my family tree landed there in 1630, ancestors fought in the Revolution, served the nation-state of Massachusetts after the Revolution, and at least one served in Washington's administration when the Constitution was established. Apparently those there today have forgotten all that heritage.
