The Trump administration announced Wednesday that President Trump will sign a proclamation to send the National Guard to the border immediately.

Most of the border is extremely remote, areas around here can be over 100 miles from a small town 150-200 miles from a city. Logistics make it hard to utilize utility workers or others. Most areas of the border are very sparsely populated rarely visited by utility workers. Rare to find contractors or service companies willing to do work in the area. One of the reasons the virtual fence was not successful is it is nearly impossible to get contractors to go to the border to service things. In my area when service people are sent to the border the drive time alone from the nearest city of any size to and from takes up most of an 8 hour shift. No motels or restaurants so if they have to return the next day they have to go 100 miles one way to get a motel or meals. No services available, not even basics. The issue with tunnels is they are nearly always in populated areas, where there is basically a city on both sides of the border. They are often unnoticed because they appear to be part of the storm drain or other infrastructure which makes them hard for anyone to detect.

I say put basic boot camps all along the border and there will be plenty of access — and firepower — to defend it.

Ft Huachuca is 15 miles North of the border but they regularly deal with illegals trespassing on Post. That should have always been considered a security issue, they need to be involved with border training- also Ft Bliss is close to the border, though they don’t seem to have the trespassing issues Ft Huachuca has.

Securing our border should involve the military, at least for planning and training. New technology could be tested there and training could be done to work more closely with BP.

As a country we must take border security far more serious than in the past.

The way I see it, Trump was a Godsend, and nothing has happened to dissuade me from that view.

The DC swamp is full of deeply rooted corruption and the criminal motives are simply lust for power and money. They do not care one whit about the Liberty promised to American citizens by the founding fathers. They do not care about the future of the Republic or the legacy we leave to future generations.

But having said that, I think the truly corrupt players are outside DC - the deep pockets that purchased the media, the lobbyists, Wall Street, Acadamia, and the deep state bureaucracy. The elected offices are definitely part of the problem, but their sin is mostly weakness and incompetence. Many have simply been brainwashed and don’t know it.

I think the brainwashing is the biggest problem of all. For decades, the Left has run a relentless and wildly successful misinformation campaign on behalf of Progressivism, which is none other than Marxism in a thin disguise.

This has been going on so long that there are only a few reasonable people left capable of critical thinking. It is impossible to have a conversation without being led around in circles by brainwashed idiots.

The insane are running the nuthouse - the one-eyed man is king in the land of the blind - they get to decide what is news, what is science, what is progress, what is fair, what is safe. There is nothing that they consider to be “none of their business”, because they claim to represent the common good which they say trumps the rights of mere individuals.

It is a nonsense argument - after all, we are all individuals, so who can claim to speak for the common good? - but there aren’t enough people left with enough sense to effectively counter it.

Yes, there are some truly evil people at the very center of this who know full well that collectivism is a lie. Karl Marx knew it was a lie - the promise of a utopia was just a lure to get simple people to give up their rights and lower their defenses.

But most politicians are not truly evil - they are just weak-minded, cowardly - easily blackmailed and easily brainwashed.

Even if you are the clearest thinker in the world, it’s so frustrating to try and wade through all the fog of misinformation, layers of fake news, decades of fake history, endless talking points - to be honest, I don’t blame people for being confused.

I can’t begin to tell you how impressed I am with Donald Trump’s clarity and steadfastness.

“The influx is causing agents to be taken off the front line to assist with processing the families and unaccompanied minors. This leads to gaps in security and not enough agents to back each other up in the field.”

http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3644567/posts

Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector continue to be overwhelmed by the numbers of illegal border crossers, they say. The sector continues to lead the nation in Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC), Family Unit Aliens (FMUA), and total apprehensions.

We are seeing huge numbers this year,” Agent Cabrera stated. “The numbers in February were much higher than the same month in the previous two years.

During the first six months of this fiscal year (which began on October 1, 2017), CBP reports indicate that RGV Sector agents apprehended more than 52,000 illegal immigrants.

“We have the buildings to handle the influx of these people,” Cabrera explained, “but we don’t have the manpower. The influx is causing agents to be taken off the front line to assist with processing the families and unaccompanied minors. This leads to gaps in security and not enough agents to back each other up in the field.”

Cabrera outlined the consequences.

“This leads to lawsuits against the agency for overcrowding and not being able to meet court-imposed processing deadlines,” he continued. “It also creates an agent safety issue when we don’t have enough agents on the line to provide backup.”

Border Patrol agents are frequently assaulted while on duty, Breitbart Texas reported. During the first six months of Fiscal Year 2018, CBP indicated that illegal aliens assaulted more than 230 agents.

First, they should turn them back at the border, never let them become our problem, even temporarily.

"The Marine Corps is not part of the posse comitatus act. If Brown refuses to cooperate with the California National Guard, then Trump should just send the Marines at Camp Pendleton to the border. He can also deploy members of the Coast Guard."

Exactly correct.

Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis, via 10 U.S.C. § 375, has the authority to direct the Department of the Navy to secure our nations border.

"The Marine Corps is not part of the posse comitatus act.

Not originally, but they are now by regulation. Title 10 forces."

=======================================

Title 10 doesn't make the Navy part of the PCA. It only defines what limitations are placed on them. And those limitations are at the discretion of the SoD.

"Sec. 375. Restriction on direct participation by military personnel The Secretary of Defense shall prescribe such regulations as may be necessary to ensure that any activity (including the provision of any equipment or facility or the assignment or detail of any personnel) under this chapter does not include or permit direct participation by a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps in a search, seizure, arrest, or other similar activity unl ess participation in such activity by such member is otherwise authorized by law."

Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis, via 10 U.S.C. § 375, has the authority to direct the Department of the Navy to secure our nations border and the PCA would have zero to do with it.

This is from a Washington Post article
from Dec. 2011.
“Critics of the deployment include budget hawks, who say it is a waste of money, and residents here along the border, who say they are tired of seeing armed troops in their back yard.”
And:
“troops instead serve as stationary observers, a kind of neighborhood watch with M-16s, often perched 30 feet in the air in skyboxes, portable watchtowers the size of phone booths.”

They will have small arms for self
defense, depending on what their
assignments are. Trump has already
stated he would place the Guard
in a similar roll as to what Obama did.

So the whole idea city trips to the border is a nonstarter. I just heard on the news they’re talking about months before the first trips to go, not yesterday as the secretary suggested. They still don’t know how many, they still don’t know what they’re going to do, etc. In my opinion, this was a half assed announcement that was not ready to be made but was made to troll the news and appease people upset with the situation. Sad. Talk, not matched by action.

I hate Siri and self-correcting iPad. That should have said ‘sending troops to the border’. Fox News has reports from Pentagon, announcement from them that this is all many months away and that they are just starting the necessary discussions. Incredible.

If Brown refuses to Nationalize the Californio National Guard then

He can't refuse, remember Orville Faubus.

I can say I have not seen the National Guard greet illegals as they pass by, that is completely bogus and no relation to reality.

Why would they do a job the Border Service is already doing?

You have no clue what is happening. First Trump was going to seal the border with military until the wall was built, then it was putting NG in support role with Governors co-operation. Not even remotely the same thing. He must have been chastised by Ivanka. The President clearly backed down, Mexico will not, they will just re-direct. The caravan may disappear but they will merely break up into smaller groups, they were just for show anyway since about a least that many common every month.

Calling the President down when he is out of line is not the same thing as wishing Hillary won, so knock it off.

Should have been done decades ago....

No what should have been done decades ago was what Ike started and no one followed through. The Wall would not be necessary if being illegal was treated as a crime.
