I dont mind saying that this column represents a grossly understated review of Discrimination and Disparities, just published by my longtime friend and colleague Dr. Thomas Sowell. In less than 200 pages, Sowell lays waste to myth after myth not only in the United States but around the globe.
One of those myths is that but for the fact of discrimination, wed all be proportionately represented in socio-economic characteristics, such as career, income, education and incarceration. The fact of business is that there is no evidence anywhere on earth, at any time in human history, that demonstrates that but for discrimination, there would be proportionate representation in anything by race, sex, nationality or any other human characteristic. Sowell shows that socio-economic outcomes differ vastly among individuals, groups and nations in ways that cannot be explained by any one factor, whether its genetics, discrimination or some kind of exploitation.

Amen to that, and thanks for the links, Diana! ;-)
My health has recently forced me to retire but not long before I did my boss/company-owner pulled me aside for a talk. He is from India and had a very DIVERSE employee base. I’m metis but was raised as a white “oppresser”.
The compliment he gave me that stuck out most in my head was, “If I had ten guy’s like you I’d be laughing all the way to the bank.” All I did everyday was the job he was paying me to do. That seemed to make me a hero.
What were the other guys doing?
See my Freep Page, Thomas Sowell is one of my “heroes”.
I have heard he can be quite standoffish in person, but...his nice personality is not my main reason for admiring him.
And I have always thought highly of Walter Williams...
I give “Basic Economics” as a gift to people!
not only that, but my wife treasurers her iron board cover
Also The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy. It really nails the Lefts assumed moral superiority.

Its 22 years old and perhaps even more important today than it was then. Very relevant.
A new book by Thomas Powell? Can’t wait to read it!
Oops. Sowell, not Powell.
Never happen.
>> his, Basic Economics is a MUST READ for everyone <<
Couldn’t agree more. Now that Milton Friedman is gone, Sowell is the best, bar none.
Moreover, President Trump’s total confusion regarding things like international comparative advantage and the difference between bilateral trade deficits and our “total” worldwide trade balance shows that more than anybody else, he needs to read and understand Sowell.
(But don’t bother to keep your fingers crossed.)
