But, the problem, IMHO is that taxes are so high that couples choose not to have a family. Because they cannot afford to have and raise a child.
Sort of the reverse of the "chicken and egg" riddle.
I don’t like government giveaways. However, if the US were to end ALL immigration from any country for any reason, for 50 years, then perhaps I would consider the benefits of giving Americans paid leave to help them have more native born children. That might be an exceptable trade-off.
Rubio sounds like a democrat here. All this does is encourage low wage workers to pop out kids with paid leave and then paid daycare to follow.
You, sucka.
Trump done in by Daddy’s Little Girl yet again.
The worst is the child care credit that Ivanka got into the tax bill. That provides yet another incentive for mothers of young children to go to work, when we know that children do better home with a parent.
And of course it is skewed to primarily aid the likes of Ivanka’s Manhattan friends who pay massive amounts for multiple nannies, etc.
Why on earth would we want to subsidize that?
Then it comes down to “Who gets leave?”. Eventually it becomes free money just for voting.
Because being a European Society is where we’re heading.
I know who will pay for it. Me. Along with the ever shrinking number of producers who are bearing the ever increasing tax burden to support the ever increasing number of freeloaders and the government handouts that suppprt them
The Vampire State already has it. Half pay to bond with a kid or care for a close relative.
My thoughts as a former Personnel Manager in the old days:
1. If I could do without the services of an employee for a lengthy maternity leave (mother or father),I could do without his/services.
2. I have invested in this person with training and experience and am being forced to hire someone else to do the work - no thank you!
3. In hiring, women of child bearing age are often passed over for the reasons cited above. It’s just a factor of life.
4. If companies were not watching the bottom line, they wouldn’t be in business and there would be no work to offer.
It ain't just taxes. It's taxes AND wages AND costs. I know no one likes to think about the fraction of US wealth that is skimmed off by elites who do very well while not doing much at all except living off of legally imposed "rents," because it smacks of socialism - but what it really is is crony capitalism in socialist clothing [yes they figured out they can fool both liberals and conservatives with this line - oh it's free market capitalism, but we do support the environment - SUCKA!]
If owners and bosses had to pay "free market" rates for labor that would fix it, but we don't because of easy immigration.
It's a complex problem without easy answers, but one answer can't be the view of too many on this forum - just tell natural born Americans to put off having the next generation until they can afford it. When is that in this Zucked up Schmidthole of a Bushleague country? Take that stance and there won't be much in the way of natural born Americans left. We will be Venezuela.
wouldn’t have to have family leave if the darned taxes weren’t so high. Paying taxes for every one else’s child and other waste makes a family poor.
Their new pets have lots and lots of children. Some times as many as 10.
