FRANKFORT- Attorney General Andy Beshear, D-Kentucky, says he will sue if Governor Bevin signs the newly passed pension reform bill.
Republican members of the General Assembly passed a surprise pension bill Thursday. Senate Bill 151 , originally a bill dealing with wastewater, served as the vehicle for a revised version of Senate Bill 1. Beshear took to Twitter to announce his intentions to sue over the rushed bill.
Beshear took issue with the manner in which the majority party rushed the bill through committee.
They didnt allow any public comment or testimony, they refused to hear from you. They plopped a 291 page bill in front of legislators and made them vote on it without reading it. And they didnt even have the required actuarial analysis, which would tell you and me if it would even save a dime. he said.
Beshear went on to say that SB 151 violates the inviolable contract in just about every way the previous bills did.
If and when the governor signs that bill into law, your Attorney Generals office will follow suit seeking to overturn as much if not all of this terrible bill as we can. he said.
Attorney General Beshear is not the only statewide official who is speaking out against the pension reform bill. Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, D-Kentucky, has also been vocal about the measure. In a series of tweets, she expressed her disgust with the process, saying in one tweet, Locking people out of committee, processing bills without the actuarial analysis and tacking legislation onto a sewage bill STINKS! This is not what democracy looks like.

So, does this mean that he’ll initiate a multi-state lawsuit against the Omnibus that was just signed by the President and passed in both Houses. And wasn’t read by any of them. Generally speaking, the morons in DC make decisions that force the taxpayers to fund crap they know nothing about or pass the costs onto the states, anyway.
“They plopped a 291 page bill in front of legislators and made them vote on it without reading it. “
Where have we seen that before. Hmmmm.
Gotta pass it before you can know what’s in it, dude.
And the response from the Governor or Legislature in Court should go something like this:
Your Honor,
We CONFESS!! Here are all the documents from the last 30 years demonstrating a conspiracy to defraud the Taxpayers on behalf of the Unions and a listing of all the Bribe money accepted by the Public Servants that negotiated these fraudulent contracts. As you see every last public servant involved in these mathematically impossible contracts did conspire and collude as well as accept Millions of Dollars in Bribe Money by the very people they were negotiating against, supposedly on the Taxpayers behalf, as you clearly see, the Taxpayers did NOT have a seat at the table, and we hereby Motion to Declare All of these COntracts Void due to FRAUD!!!
Do this in Federal Court and Watch the SH&T hit the Fan.
Billy's also known (in Massachusetts at least) for having taken the 5th several dozen times when giving sworn testiony before a Congressional Committee (and also having said "I can't recall" several dozen other times) as well as drawing a $250,000/yr Massachusetts state pension, courtesy of the few people in this state who actually work for a living and pay taxes.
You have to pass the bill to find out whats in it.
Guess who set that precedent.
gee we said this i 2009 when nanzi pelosi did the same thing with obamacare.
Wow.
Looks like California and the Feds are not the only dysfunctional confused, chaotic entities to be paralyzed by ignorance of their own laws, or by indifference.
This can't end well...
Pensions will be the destruction of this Country. Every State should bite the bullet, pay off the liabilities from a one time tax increase, and change to a 401K style pension. ENOUGH. It’s so 1950.
Looks like a nationwide universal political blown fuse.
Obamadork set an unConstitutional precedent... nobody stopped him... now every elected and appointed criminal wants "in" on the act.
NICE LEGACY, BARACK MUHAMAD HUSSEIN!!
Wait.
He's collecting a State pension while in jail?
WTF??
Essentially the idiot GOP passed a bill that does little to fix the pension the Democrats, especially the AG Breashears daddy as governor stole and spent. They are taking a crap load of heat for doing nothing. If youre going to receive a sh@t storm of political abuse at least you should have something right to show for it.
The moronic teachers are acting like its the end of humanity because the bill they did pass effects no retired teachers or 99% of those in the system currently, only new hires who are not guaranteed a public pension and gasp, might have to rely on a 401 retirement system, oh the horror. Welcome to the real world snowflake mentors!
I know, I tried to change the Paid Time Off benefits of our County workers which were so ridiculous, amounting to almost seven weeks the first year. You read that correctly. I was informed by our County Attorney that I should be prepared for a class action lawsuit. So I pushed just for new hires and won. NOW the issue is coming back. I have learned it’s never enough. I tell people now if the are unhappy with their job go get a new one.
Little Andy Beshear, the son of former democratic Gov. Steve Beshear, uses his position of Attorney General to lead the resistance to anything that republicans, especially Gov. Matt Bevin, try to accomplish. Generally speaking, the people of Kentucky are unwittingly paying Andy Beshear to be a full-time filer of lawsuits intended to thwart Gov. Bevin’s agenda.
“Beshear went on to say that SB 151 violates the inviolable contract in just about every way the previous bills did.”
There’s no such thing as an inviolable contract when it comes to legislatures. A future legislature can unwind, ignore and cancel any contract passed by a previous legislature. Legislatures are sovereign. There’s no such thing as a plenary legislature that can dictate to a future legislature what it must do.
No,I worded my post poorly.Whitey's in Federal prison for having killed God knows how many...and other stuff. His kid brother Billy is collecting a Massachusetts state pension of $250K/yr when he,too, should be in prison but has somehow avoided it.
If,by chance, you're curious read a book called "The Brothers Bulger" by Boston talk show host and columnist Howie Carr.Great stuff....which includes the tale of a Boston FBI agent who basically joined Whitey's crew and wound up doing 40 years for murder.
Also, the film "Black Mass" is about the Bulgers...but it whitewashes Billy...probably in order to avoid a libel lawsuit.
