Attorney General Jeff Sessions revealed Thursday a federal prosecutor was evaluating certain issues involving the FBI, the Clinton Foundation and Uranium One, but said he would not appoint a second special counsel at this point.

In a letter directed to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte and House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, Sessions revealed that he asked U.S. Attorney John Huber to lead the evaluation into issues raised by the committees in recent months.

“I write in response to recent letters requesting the appointment of a Special Counsel to review certain prosecutorial and investigative determinations made by the Department of Justice in 2016 and 2017. I take the concerns you raise seriously,” Sessions wrote, noting how important it was that the American people and Congress had “confidence” in the Justice Department.

Good. The evidence is clear. It is time to prosecute.

The fix is in. Did anyone really expect sessions to appoint an actual independent sc?

Sessions is following due process. I have confidence in him, and in the process. Charge on.

So, trying to frame the President by abusing the FISA court process with perjured information isn’t really worthy of a Special Counsel, but having the losing candidate in an election fabricate charges of illicit aid by a foreign power is?

Got it. Now the justice system makes sense to me.

Sessions has Rosenstein as DAG and acting AG on all matters connected to Clinton.

I have zero confidence in Sessions' judgement.

Everything that Sundance over at ConservativeTreehouse has been saying for months have been confirm. That a prosecutor has been working along side IG Horowitz involving Hillary exoneration, Steele dossier/ FISA court spy on Trump abuse, McCabe ...etc. These drop by drip leaks about the malfeasance of certain obama people aren’t coming from Democrats or those part of the scheme but field FBI agents and I’m more convinced that someone(s) among the small group has flipped and is talking BIG time

FBI, Clinton Foundation, Uranium One. Not his bosses, not in his chain of command.

Anybody who thinks that Rod Rosenstein wears a white hat is utterly clueless.

Is this the same guy Sessions said he appointed last summer to work in conjunction with the IG investigation to give them prosecutorial powers that he mentioned in his Fox News interview six weeks or so ago?

He didn't name the person then but he does here, US Attorney John Huber.

Anybody know anything about him?

In 2004, Attorney General John Ashcroft recognized Mr. Huber for his work in fighting violent crime, and in 2010 Attorney General Eric Holder honored Mr. Huber for his superior performance as a federal prosecutor.

He served for almost two years as a presidentially appointed U.S. Attorney during the Obama Administration. U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions appointed Mr. Huber to continue his service as the U.S Attorney in Utah in March 2017.

Wow, great pick- holder honored him for his superior performance. We are screwed.

Why didn’t Sessions appoint a conservative prosecutor who didn’t have dealings with Obama and Holder?

I have zero confidence in Sessions' judgement.

Agreed, letting the DOJ and FBI investigate themselves is a horrible idea.

From the web:

John W. Huber has served as the United States Attorney and lead federal law enforcement official in Utah since June 2015. He served for almost two years as a presidentially appointed U.S. Attorney during the Obama Administration. U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions appointed Mr. Huber to continue his service as the U.S Attorney in Utah in March 2017. In August 2017, the United States Senate unanimously confirmed President Donald J. Trump’s appointment of Mr. Huber to serve an additional four years as United States Attorney.

Mr. Huber graduated with honors from The University of Utah, and went on to complete his juris doctor degree at The University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law. He began his public service in the Weber County Attorney’s Office, and later served as the Chief Prosecutor for West Valley City before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office. As a prosecutor, Mr. Huber is recognized for his expertise on various subject matters. He has provided training numerous times on a range of topics including domestic violence, national security, and violent crime.

Prior to confirmation as the United States Attorney, Mr. Huber served in leadership roles within the U.S. Attorney’s Office as the National Security Section chief and the Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney. Mr. Huber personally prosecuted a number of high profile cases that centered on violent crime, domestic and international terrorism, and the rule of law. In addition, Mr. Huber coordinated task forces focused against violent crime and terrorism. This work garnered commendations from the highest levels of the United States Department of Justice over the course of two Presidential administrations. In 2004, Attorney General John Ashcroft recognized Mr. Huber for his work in fighting violent crime, and in 2010 Attorney General Eric Holder honored Mr. Huber for his superior performance as a federal prosecutor.

During his tenure as United States Attorney, Mr. Huber has focused on fighting back against an upward trend in violent crime, targeting prosecutions against the outsized number of fraudsters who victimize Utah residents, and combating the deadly opioid crisis. He prioritizes law enforcement productivity and crime prevention through strong partnerships in the communities he serves. Mr. Huber is serving in his second appointment to the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee (AGAC). He served in that capacity in the previous administration, and in 2017, Attorney General Jeff Sessions extended leadership responsibilities to Mr. Huber as the AGAC’s vice-chair. In the past, Mr. Huber also helped lead the AGAC’s Terrorism and National Security Subcommittee, and the interagency Domestic Terrorism Executive Committee in Washington, D.C. In 2017, Mr. Huber chaired the executive board of the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area that serves Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Utah.
