In the days and weeks following the February 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the National Rifle Association saw a significant spike in donations. In fact, reports from the Federal Election Commission show donations to the NRA's Political Victory Fund tripled from January to February. In January, the NRA collected almost $248,000 in individual contributions. In February, they collected more than $779,000. It's no secret that interest in guns and gun sales -- as evidenced by anecdotes and manufacturing numbers -- have until recently gotten boosts from mass shootings. So it would stand to reason that donations to the NRA would get a bump as well.

How long before they demand mandatory background checks on NRA members and donors?
I did not donate, but did buy a gun, not an AR but a nice little pistol. I did join the NRA.
Well, that’s kind of a donation. Kind of. But good on you for pickin’ up a dandy little pistol.
The LEFT shoots themselves in the foot again. They never learn(and I hope they never do).
Every time they demonize law abiding Americans, they get unintended consequences.
Make the fascist yoots unhappy. Support the NRA and our Second Amendment rights.
Don’t laugh; when the Dems were shellacked in 1994 after the AWB was passed, Clinton publicly blamed the NRA and then sent IRS agents to NRA headquarters to repeatedly demand the NRA’s master membership list. Staff lawyers repeatedly told them to come back with a warrant or take a hike. It was a standoff that lasted until Clinton left office.
I think we should take away the guns and arrest every single NRA member...who commits a mass shooting.
Sucks to be CNN. Ha!
Who’s laughing?! In California they went after the pro traditional marriage crowd. If I were running the NRA I would consider moving from Northern Virginia but, I’m only a life member.
Boom
This is only the NRA-ILA, right? Not the NRA?
Yes, I believe so. I don't think the NRA releases general fundraising or membership numbers, but they are required to by FEC rules for the funds dedicated directly to political action. One would imagine if the dedicated political action contributions were up this much, general membership fundraising would be up considerably more.
Thanks for the answer. I didn’t know.
The donations didn’t triple after the shooting so much as they tripled after the left’s attacks on the NRA following the shooting.
“...and then sent IRS agents to NRA headquarters to repeatedly demand the NRAs master membership list.”
If they can’t tell from the NRA cap and t-shirt I wear, or the NRA sticker on my car...all they have to do is ask me.
Life member here, too. The NRA has to stay close to the halls of power in D.C. though I have always heard that the physical layout of their headquarters including parking was designed with crowd control in mind, along with police access.
I used to live in Northern VA and it was a great place. Have friends there but the public sphere has gone hostile Third World.
I joined last week
Ooh, that’s good!
