Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Tuesday slammed retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens for calling for a repeal of the Second Amendment.
In an op-ed for The New York Times, Stevens recommended repealing the amendment as a first step to enacting gun control, prompting Graham to say he is “glad” the justice is retired.
“I will PROTECT the Second Amendment … not REPEAL it,” Graham tweeted. “Like every American, Justice Stevens is entitled to his opinion, but I am very glad he is now retired.”
The GOP lawmaker added that he has “zero intention of following” Stevens’s suggestion, and criticized “out-of-touch” liberals for attacking the Second Amendment.
“Statements like this epitomize out-of-touch liberals who do not appreciate the important role the Second Amendment has played – and continues to play – in our nation,” Graham added.
Graham added in a statement that Stevens's comments should serve as a reminder to conservatives “just how important Supreme Court nominations can be.”
“It makes me appreciate President Trump’s nomination and the Senate’s confirmation of Justice Gorsuch even more,” he said.
Stevens, a Republican, argued in his op-ed that the right to bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment is outdated and misunderstood.
He encouraged pro-gun control activists, like the organizers of the March for Our Lives rally in Washington over the weekend, to “seek more effective and more lasting reform” through a repeal of the Second Amendment.
"That simple but dramatic action would move Saturday’s marchers closer to their objective than any other possible reform,” Stevens wrote.
Before I got to the last of your post being away from McCain came to mind.
McCain isn’t coming back in my view, maybe there’s a tiny bit of hope for Graham.

as a “team” Lindsay and McShame were just awful, imho.
maybe, and this is quite a stretch, but maybe Lindsay will discover or re-discover some good sense and...maybe help us get rid of Obamacare, help us further reduce taxes and wasteful spending, and help us with getting some control on the mass-scale invasion of America (border, tourists staying forever, big “American” corporations importing communist Chinese workers on a mass scale, etc.)
Lindsay could do us all a lot of good, if only he will ...

1 - Stevens thinks as much like a Republican as does Nutty Nancy Pelosi.
2 - The Second Amendment is as important today as is the rest of the Bill of Rights.
3 - The Second Amendment is perfectly understood, but some people don't like it; the same people who aren't fans of the First Amendment.

Wow, did Graham find his lost box of cheerios? Perhaps he has been eating his spinach? More likely it is because he doesn’t have his partner, Juan McCain around telling him how to think. Whatever it is he is gaining points on the scorecard I keep. Let’s just say he has a long way to go though.

The Second Amendment is part of the original Bill of Rights. It is as firm as the Constitution. To propose repeal of a part of the Bill of Rights causes me to question the patriotism of the person doing it. John Paul Stevens spent a good portion of his life making decisions based on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Now he is turning his back on it? I think he is too old to be making decisions about the law any more. His mind is gone.

Posture move for Graham. He knows there is no chance the 2nd gets repealed so he says this to appeal to the conservatives back home. He always pulls just enough of this crap to to survive a primary.

We can’t forget one of the greatest aspects of the Trump win was the Supreme Court. A few of the fossils need to go to pasture.
Stevens was a fake “Republican” even 50 years ago, and has long been a thoroughly left-wing person. I know one of his acolytes who clerked for him enthusiastically (she married a college friend), and she is well to the left of Bernie Sanders.
