SEOUL, South Korea South Korea has agreed to further open its auto market to the United States as the two countries prepare to amend their 6-year-old trade agreement following complaints by President Donald Trump.
...It marks the first successful renegotiation of a trade deal for the Trump administration which used the threat of 25 percent steel tariffs at the bargaining table and comes as the allies sought to resolve disputes before planned meetings with Kim Jong Un.

This is something that has never been done before.
This truly is winning.
More winning please!
Ping. The S. Korean politicians confuse me...are they pro-North still? Are they playing both games?
Are Koreans going to buy American cars? I wouldn’t.
The world, and the US Government, will just continue on its corrupt, crooked course unless someone gives it a kick.
While CNN is fapping to Stormy, President Trump is killing it on trade.
He is fulfilling his biggest campaign promise - to fix the lousy trade deals that are killing US manufacturing and jobs, at an amazing pace and with virtually no interference from the stupid courts. TPP, NAFTA, all the bad deals are going to be renegotiated, and things like this are simply new ground, where we have never gone before.
Another story that won’t be reported in the fake news.
Seems that way sometimes but the fact of the matter is that they're pro-Korea. They've long figured that if they can reunite the country their way of doing things will win out in short order and they can payoff the big wigs in the North with comfortable retirements wherever they want to retire.
The main thing for them is not having another war however good the reason for that war seems to others.
Winning...
This truly is winning.
This is something that has never been done before.
More winning please!
Sorry to disappoint but if you go beyond the headlines, this trade agreement extension is more of a "nothing-burger" and "saving face" than "winning" basically, Koreans agreed to irrelevant minor modifications to existing 6-year agreement.
Specifically, :
1. "The two countries reached an agreement "in principle" on the trade deal known as Korus... South Korea would limit U.S. shipments of the metal to about 2.7 million tons a year... The country also agreed to double to 50,000 the number of U.S. cars that could be imported without meeting local safety standards, although American manufacturers sell far fewer cars in the market. i.e., SK will sell the extra steel to exempt partners, who in turn will resell it to the US if needed. The number of cars went from 25,000 to 50,000 while no U.S. company sever sold as many as 10,000 in South Korea.
2. Agreement also specifies that South Korea will limit the number of light truck they sell to the U.S. South Korea hasn't been selling light trucks to the U.S.
That's about all the changes to the previous agreement, but it allows to claim PR coup, i.e., "trade wars are good and easy to win".
That's why you don't see a lot more being made of this "shamwow" just a relief that a "war" is averted good for PR, but on substance level, practically nothing.
Thanks NImerc.
My Chevy Truck just passed 215K and has outlasted 2 of my wife’s Asian cars.
But YMMV.
We truly are blessed by the Good Lord to have thee greatest POTUS of all time leading us in these troubled times!!!
President Trump was obviously chosen to not only MAGA, but to make history!!!
May he one day soon receive the appreciation, respect and adoration he so richly deserves for all he is so selflessly doing to make all of our lives better!!!
With no thanks to the NeverTrumpers.
They all need us more than we need them.
Tell your wife to change the oil in her car.
Well, they buy a few American cars. Very few. And not subject to safety regulations, which is disturbing.
A long, long time ago, things like Levi jeans and Cannondale Mtn bikes would sell for astronomical prices in Japan. They wanted ALL things American, for some odd reason. Maybe the SKorean’s desire to have AMERICAN things will be the same.
Think about it. You’re some rich guy in Seoul. Everyone is rolling around in Hyundai’s, Kia’s and some European sedans. You roll up to the stoplight in an F250 Super Duty, Quad Cab, Long Bed, 6.7 liter Diesel, on some 37’s. Not a person in that city, won’t know who you are.
