President Donald Trump briefly threatened to veto a giant spending bill on Friday and then reluctantly signed it to keep the military funded.
The lack of funding for a border wall with Mexico is likely one of the presidents biggest frustrations. Trump mentioned the wall when he threatened to veto the bill. The $1.3 trillion budget includes just $1.6 billion for wall construction along the southern border, far short of the $25 billion needed to accomplish Trumps signature campaign promise.
To make matters worse, the spending bill specifically prohibits Trump from building the kind of wall he wants. The president nevertheless celebrated the progress and pointed out that construction can begin immediately.
But Trump also dropped an eyebrow-raising hint that he could take an unprecedented option and build the wall using the enormous military budget.
I want to address the situation on border security, which I call national defense, Trump said. I call it stopping drugs from pouring across our border. And I call it illegal immigration. Its all of those things. But national defense is a very important two words. Because by having a strong border system, including a wall, we are in a position, militarily, that is very advantageous.
For the first time, Trump underlined the significance of the barrier as a military structure and a matter of national defense. Up to now, the president promoted the wall as a way to curtail illegal immigration and stop the deadly flood of illicit drugs. The introduction of the walls military function is significant, especially in terms of funding it.
Roughly half of the spending bill is dedicated to the military for a total of over $654 billion allotted to the Pentagons base budget and overseas counterinsurgency operations. Thats enough to build the wall 26 times.

Hate is learned from the people around you
“You have to be carefully taught”
Thanks for the reply.
Jimmy Carter sure learned his hate lesson then.
Many from his generation did Jews , blacks, Irish
All were hated equally. It was before the civil rights movement.
Lol this article is from July 2017
Seems exactly like the kind of project the Army Corps of Engineers should undertake and maintain. It has a hell of a lot more to do with national defense than levees and water projects on the Mississippi, though those are necessary and legitimate. Liberals take note; they voted for this, and it will get done.
Thanks zencycler.
Jimmy Carter was a fool. As a white man from South Africa let me tell you the pain he inflicted on Christians. He let a black horde take over SA, He let them rape and murder indiscriminately, He let the Mullahs kill the Shah of Iran and take over and covet nukes. He was a friggin fool. To top it all off he had no clue he was clueless. Carter was a moron. The world he left us was vastly worse than when he came in. The short bus driver would have been given a Nobel prize if they had left that idiot on the buss during spring break and he had expired.
More easily done as reimbursable work as you point out. Not so much as direct funded.
Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Enjoyed the conversation.
And post #259 with the correct answer. The military will be overseeing and supervising the contractors do the work.
“in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence”
Attempting to build the wall with military funds would get the military budget tied up by the 9th Circuit judges for years.

As I stated in my post, this is not a budget. A spending resolution does not carry the weight of the legal budgetary process. It is simply an authorization to spend money. The uniparty, bought and paid for by the globalists, has not passed a budget since Bush 43. They appropriate money under the threat of government shutdown and keep the socialist revolution and totalitarianism alive. They enrich themselves in the process and expand their power. Off course Trump’s order to build the wall will be challenged and delayed but it won’t be defeated by a district court. everything will be in place; funding, materials, military manpower, and national will. The Ruling to stay will be immediate and immediately appealed to supremes. Remember, that court has changed and there is no legal basis to stop this Presidential order.
combine this with the fact that this resolution operates until September and you have perfect timing for mid term election. Trump will not sign another continuing resolution in September and will campaign for republicans using the obstruction of the wall and the refusal to deal with immigration as a reason not to sign another resolution. Base will be totally fired up and ready to turn out to support this. Remember Democrats have 10 senate seats that are in doubt in 2018. they have a lot to lose.
Is this a sure thing or a perfect solution? No, but it is the best Trump could do under the circumstances
“I and a few others replied that it’s obvious Trump could declare border defense a national security issue and build a DMZ type infrastructure using DoD funds and resources.”
I agree and I think he could dismiss any court order to stop construction by claiming ‘national defense’.
I have done my homework and came to the realization that the designs are NOT cost effective.
If Trump wants he could use the military to build the wall, in the interest of National Security. Branches of Service have Construction groups....like Navy has Seabees!

If you think of it, how else to get a superior build, when liberals or illegal sympathizers would be more inclined to do poor job.
Ding, ding, ding - we have a thread winnah!
GREAT IDEA!!!
The issue is, are Ryan (Romney) and McConnell (Bush) committed to removing Trump from office, or not?
Everything follows from that.
I think the Posse act concerns the Army’s guns pointed in....Guns pointed out is OK and really just a part of their job....
