SACRAMENTO -- Four days after 22-year-old Stephon Clark was shot and killed by police officers in his grandparents' backyard, protesters gathered inside and outside Sacramento City Hall.
Officers believed Clark had been breaking into cars in the neighborhood and shot him because they say they thought he had a gun. He was only holding a cellphone.
"The death of one more man of color is one too many," Mayor Darrell Steinberg said earlier Thursday before the protest began.
Protesters clogged major downtown Sacramento streets near City Hall as the Thursday commute was about to begin. Earlier in the day, the city urged drivers to find alternate routes.
A large crowd of demonstrators walked onto Interstate 5 at J Street and blocked both sides of the roadway, forcing traffic to stop. Drivers were seen getting out of their stopped cars along the interstate.
In one instance a CHP officer grabbed a lone man and dragged him from the southbound I-5 onto the shoulder of the roadway. Demonstrators told FOX40 the man was not associated with their protest and was later arrested.

We can no longer weed-out those who are marginal or questionable.
I used to listen to local black talk radio.
Blacks think of jobs as police and firemen to be little more than good paying government jobs with security and benefits. They don't see them as public service. They see them as, basically, a cushy government job.
Whenever it was announced police and firefighters would be hired, the black radio hosts would tell their audience to apply because 'it's a good job with good money and benefits'. NEVER did they encourage their audience to become a cop to protect the black community.
That's why they push hard for affirmative action hires. They don't want black cops to protect black citizens. That's just what they say publicly. If it was about black cops protecting black citizens all the black cops would be stationed in minority districts (they're not).
The result, as I said, lowered the standards for everyone.
we badly need more counter demos against BLM and antifoam. I am too old and feeble.
Yellow and Black signs - PSL - the Trotskyite/Stalinist “Party of Socialism and Liberation”, a split off from the once Trotskyite, now Stalinist again, Workers World Party (of APC, PAM, ANSWER and IAC (International Action Center - created with the help of former US AG Ramsay Clark).
Steinberg - out of his f**ing mind. Hey Darrell, you’re mentally Marxist “treif” (garbage).
How could this happen?
Our police chief is black!
“He ran from the police when they first tried to stop him. They caught up with him in the back yard. This guy was no innocent.”
All of that may be true, but he still didn’t deserve to die! I am not a big “fan of the Black Community,” because by and large they are trouble with a capital “T!”
Just as I’m not a big fan of bikers, like the bunch that showed up in Waco a couple of years ago. But I am a staunch defender of Constitutional Rights. Being a cop and carrying a gun doesn’t entitle you to use the citizenry as your own private live-target shooting range. And as much as I am disgusted with Blacks behavior in general, I think shooting them first and asking questions later is criminal behavior.
I am pleasantly surprised that they Somali “cop” in Minnesota that killed that white woman from Australia has been charged with murder. Now they should charge the police chief with stupidity and political correctness for making that a$$hole a police “officer.” He’s as guilty of that woman’s death as the Somali.
New lesson in life: Always carry your cell phone in your back pocket and never reach for it if a cop has a gun pointed at you. Same goes for a TV remote.
“Contemporary officers are way too jacked-up on power trips.”
And the bigger the city, the worse they are, but I guess you need to see “the streets” they walk from their eyes to be totally objective. I have found that police in small cities and towns, where the criminal element is less pervasive, to be a whole lot more interested in “to protect and to serve! I have a good friend who is Black and a former LAPD cop. He quit ten years ago and moved out of SoCal because both the cops and the criminals were problematic. He said the biggest problem he had was being told he had to violate citizens rights routinely, and that was especially true when dealing with minorities.
“The result, as I said, lowered the standards for everyone.”
It’s how we’ve devolved as a society. Government jobs used to serve useful purposes. Now their primary reason for being is government employment of people who can’t get work elsewhere and who will, in exchange for ever increasing pay and benefits, vote for the RAT Party, and not have to work very hard for their entire working lives!
Just look and all the hullabaloo about the poor “government workers” when there’s the threat of a government shutdown. The RATs and RINOs are worried if they furlough enough of these folks, they’ll get voted out of office! Personally, I’d like to see a non-essential services government shutdown for month. I just imagine it would be a real eye-opener.
Trump has forced us to see all of it for what it is. We really have had $HIT Presidents for all of my nearly 78 years, sadly including Reagan. A bunch of “can kickers,” but now that can won’t go much farther. “Other People’s Money” comes from those of us who are productive. The UN, foreign aid, military aid, stationing troops so the a$$holes in Europe don’t have to fund or staff their own defense, then we look inward to this kind of $hit. And then there’s the “trade imbalance!”
Cooperating with police increased survivability probably by 90% or more. But the SJWs dont tell this to young black men because they are fodder for their pursuit of power.
I doubt the cops are shit scared. They have probably been told to let them riot and the cops know if they try to stop them the local government will not have their backs. They will side with the demonstrators, not the cops. New Orleans and Baton Rouge are both democrat run cities but neither one of them allowed the BLM/antifa types riot and block traffic. The local governments knew the locals would not stand for it. It would have been funny if the rioters had blocked I 10 in New Orleans. I think the drivers here would have taken them on. A large number of the residents are legally armed.
“New lesson in life: Always carry your cell phone in your back pocket and never reach for it if a cop has a gun pointed at you. Same goes for a TV remote.”
Yeah, a lot of people have guns in their home for personal protection. Then they get a no knock raid that was meant for a house on the next block, and they drop you for trying to defend yourself.
It is always uncomfortable knowing that if a citizen opened fire like that and continued firing, they would be put in front a jury on a charge of murder, yet an officer operates under a completely different set of judicial rules.
Cover was readily available, backup was present, and I can barely accept the LAPD's widespread kill them all training of authorizing deadly force without actual knowledge if there's a deadly threat present.
But the other 16 shots after the suspect goes down? That's just ensuring a kill.
You should not be so quick to believe everything cops say. Like most other people, they will lie if it helps them cover their asses.
If instead of a cell phone this guy had a gun and the cops waited until it was fired to be sure there would be one or two dead cops
You cannot expect a cop to wait until fired upon before responding
He wasn’t accidentally seen by a helicopter, a police helicopter caught up to him, as police were chasing him.
The tape recorded that a cop said “gun” — they thought he had a gun.
Havent seen the video... but there are several cell phone guns out there... pistols made to look like cell phones...and this is in the back of the minds of the police... again, though, I havent seen the video yet... at our Dept, we are allowed to turn off the cameras..for now... while on a call if we need to discuss something unrelated to the current call for service... but it doesnt happen often...
