The 2,232 page Omnibus bill includes a specific clause barring funding for a wall on the southern border that mirrors the new prototypes already there. The bill reads:
The amounts designated in subsection (a)(2) through (a)(4) shall only be available for operationally effective designs deployed as of the date of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2017, (Public Law 115–31), such as currently deployed steel bollard designs, that prioritize agent safety.

I disagree. He is not impotent, he is the most powerful man in the world. I say he lacks the will to do what needs to be done.
Preferably from one of those yardarms they put traffic lights on. Swinging there above the street at a much-used intersection, they shall be a reminder to others swamp critters.
Not sure it is a lack of will. Trump seems pretty good in that department. It could be a lack of the powers of persuasion coupled by the fact that most of DC hates his guts. Not sure.
What I do know is that he doesn’t have the votes. When it comes to legislation you have to have the votes. I just don’t see this wall happening. I could live with that if security forces on the border are quadrupled and deportations increased. Not desirable but it is certainly better than what we had with Obama.
I love Trump but he can only do so much by himself.
The “enemy’s rules” are that they have the majority, regardless of party, the Establishment has the votes and can box him in on things that require the votes.
The leadership of his own party crossed the aisle to box him in. He has no options. A veto leads to a shutdown, which leads to the end of his presidency when he is forced to give in or be impeached, in part by his own party. He’s done.
So he chooses not to fight on a losing battlefield and live to fight another day in better circumstances. What you are asking him to do would be like the British Army choosing to fight to the last man on the beaches of Dunkirk.

Good Lord, he lacks the will to commit suicide like Joan of Arc? He does not have the power of a dictator, read the Constitution, neither does he have more than a bare handful of Congressmen with him. So what does he fight with in your scenario? Name the power he has to do what you want of him?
Veto it. Just veto it. You have coverage you need, Mr. President.

Here is my plan for POTUS
Trump could veto the bill, and tell Ryan fund the wall, cut funding for PP, cut funding for Ocare and cut out the waste. Now the Dems in the Senate would never agree and that would force Mitch to go nuclear and abolish the 60 vote closure rule. Risky but doable if the GOP sticks together, meanwhile blame the Rats for the shutdown by not passing a spending bill.
That's a great plan...but it has one FATAL flaw: It assumes Ryan and Mitch are on Trump's side. They are not. They would never go along with that. They CRAFTED this piece of garbage behind closed doors without any input from conservatives.
There is a Facebook video from Mike Lee ranting about this very subject. He said he didn't even get any input...this bill was created by leadership from both sides without any input from anyone...and there is no debate on it.
So, there is zero way Ryan and Mitch are going to all of the sudden turn their backs on their own creation, their baby, and call it ugly. Nancy and Chuck would eat their lunch for stabbing them in the back and that would be that.

Yes you are correct but it would put intense pressure on them to get a spending Bill Trump would not veto. Trump must veto this bill it is a complete sale out of this base. Insures the GOP stay home on election day and insures Trump is impeached and a one term president. I agree with the poster that said if Trump must go down let him go down fighting.
I think Trump should veto the bill.
Then go directly to the American people.
Trump should make a speech reading Congress the riot act. He should talk about drafting the bill in secret and not showing it until the last minute. Talk about the corruption and waste in the bill. He should tell the American people to demand that Congress does their job.

The dims have learned their lesson from 2016. From now on, they will no longer run ANYONE that leaves the blacks sitting at home on election day in PA, OH, WI or MI. Florida is LOST because of Maria and PR...and Scott's idiotic gun measures which are going to cause people to stay home.
So, I agree...but I don't think he gets it.
That would have been a good plan had he not tweeted that he was going to sign it. But he already knew all of this. He already knew it was done behind closed doors and there was no time for debate and he tweeted his support.
He should do all of this...but he's not. He's going to sign it. I think he believes he doesn't want to die on this hill...he wants to fight another day.
