John Dowd resigns as Trump's lawyer in Russia probe

John Dowd, President Trump’s lead lawyer handling the special counsel probe into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin, has stepped down, according to reports on Thursday.

Dowd had considered stepping down in the past over his inability to control Trump’s outbursts, The New York Times reported.

Rumors ran rampant this week that a legal team shake-up was in the works.

Trump added former U.S. Attorney Joseph diGenova, a regular Fox News guest, to his team earlier in the week.

JUST FIRE MEULLER!

The ONLY people who think this would be a bad idea are the SWAMP DWELLERS

This would also help push RINO’s out in primaries in the midterms.

IMO Trump’s legal team has not been terribly effective to this point. If he wants to shake it up I could certainly understand.

Jay Sekulow is apparently not good for much other than stuffing my mailbox full of fundraising flyers.

Trump employs people for specific purposes. When that purpose is no longer an objective (achieved, circumstances changed, etc.), then he is not shy about changing that person out - whether he fires them or they resign. This means he will always have a fairly high turnover in the ranks of those working for him. The Left & “enemedia” like to refer to it as “chaos”, but it’s not .... it’s one of the reasons Trump is so effective.

Jay Sekulow isn't a "real" lawyer as you and I would understand it.

He fills a PR role on President Trump's legal team. That's why you see him all over TV instead of inside a courtroom.

How do you expect them to be effective? Muller’s investigation process is not an adversary proceeding at this point. There is no forum in which to contest what he is doing at this point. He can present to grand juries to find facts, and not return indictments. He can interview until the cows come home. Until that becomes a contested matter - there is no way for Trump’s legal team to directly engage Mueller. This is the whole point of the criticism of Session’s recusal and then Rosenstein’s unbounded directive for Mueller (and the selection of Mueller itself.) Until this is engaged with charges or a report to Congress, the legal team is left to strategize and leak/speak to the press.

Since it is not in the legal arena, at least not for Trump’s team, yet, they need to be more proactive in the PR and media spin regarding the political issues that are out there (e.g. Facebook, Cambridge Analytica, etc.)

I believe the most recent case Sekulow argued before the U.S. Supreme Court was in 2008.

Like I said ... I don't think he litigates cases anymore. He runs a major non-profit organization that probably brings on outside lawyers to do the heavy lifting in high-profile cases.

Then Trump should hire that guy who played Jackie Chiles on Seinfeld.

I suspect Joe DiGenova will be effective because he’ll be calling Mueller’s team out, in a very public manner, every step of the way.
