Republicans will be using the omnibus bill to clarify that the Centers for Control and Prevention (CDC) can perform “gun violence research.”
The Democrats wanted a full repeal of the Dickey Amendment, and Republicans demurred but met them halfway by agreeing to make it clear that the CDC is not barred from doing the research.
The Dickey Amendment, named after the late Rep. Jay Dickey (R-AR), was put into a funding bill in 1996 and has been renewed every year since. It says, “None of the funds made available in this title may be used, in whole or in part, to advocate or promote gun control.”

We already paid $10 million for a CDC study which found that guns are used for defense and that’s a good thing. We going to keep researching until we get a different answer?
They aren’t afraid for their primaries yet. They aren’t afraid for their re-election yet. They need to be fearful that they will loose their jobs.
People that see this anti-Trump work should make all their efforts count.
The RNC has sent our a stilted mailer asking loaded questions to define a “Trump Agenda” and get us on the RNC donation list to “Advance” the Trump Agenda that they will report out based upon this mailer.
Screw them.
So, is this taxpayer ripoff going to analyze the minds of guns to see why they want to kill or analyze the minds of human beings, especially school kids, to learn why THEY want to kill people? I’d sure like to see an AR15 on a shrink’s couch being analyzed. What a hoot.

That’s bugging me too.
Our side struggles to maintain the status quo - when it SHOULD be agitating for repeal of 922(o), NFA, GCA, etc. Fight for stuff that scares the other side, then settle for moving the ball in the right direction (just like they do, which is why we’re chronically losing).

Any research has to focus on the racial disparities in crime, violence, violent crimes, and tally the disparities across demographic categories in terms of propensity to commit violence. We have a Second Amendment that applies to all Americans, Gun violence is a problem, but for some sub groups of the population it is a massive problem and for the vast majority of the population, it is not a problem at all. If 2% of the population are causing 80% of the problem, the answer couldn’t possibly be to curtail the 2nd Amendment rights for all. We need a CDC directed study that does not put a politically correct sugar coating on the reality we all know.

Omnibus = way for lying SOS politicians to hide voting records and sneak pet/pork/progressive projects into legislation.
If the one man one vote mantra is good enough for the democracy types (founders were not so keen), then one bill, one vote should be should be good for the gander.
