Video has been released which shows how the self-driving Uber car killed a pedestrian.
An Uber spokeswoman said the company was “fully cooperating” with the local authorities.
The autonomous Uber had a safety driver at the wheel, as was required for Uber’s autonomous test vehicles operating on public roads, Tech Crunch reported.
Police said that the Uber was driving northbound near Mill Avenue and Curry Road when a woman attempted to cross the street with her bicycle in front of the vehicle outside, of a crosswalk, KNXV reported.
In the video, you can see Elaine Herzberg, 49, suddenly appear in front of the car.
The pedestrian was hit by the Uber while it was traveling 40 m.p.h. in a 45 m.p.h. zone.
After being struck, Herzberg was transported to a nearby hospital where she died, police said.

As we get older, some traffic intersections get confusing enough for humans. In a city there may be as many as five or more different light configurations at intersections. Lane configurations add to the problem. You need human a human level skill-set to traverse the traffic system, and even then that’s not even a guarantee that accidents won’t happen, people won’t die.
This seemed like a death machine from the get-go. As soon as they started talking about it, I was very negative toward them.
I don’t want these machines (driver-less vehicles) on the road.
Imagine what one rogue semi could do.
Why? Human drivers kill jaywalkers every day. We've somehow managed to co-exist with trains which are essentially self-driving. There may be a few speed bumps along the way but self-driving cars are the future.

I thought she was hit as she attempted to cross right to left. But now I see she had crossed from left to right. Would an attentive driver miss her?
I doubt it.
She didn’t “jump in front” of the uber kar. She was slowly walking across the road, pushing her bike. She is clearly visible, even in this doctored video with the brightness turned down.
Had it been a child, elderly person, or a cow, same result.
I think “IT” was texting or playing a game. Or reading a magazine.
The original claim was that there was no time to react - yeah, if the tranny is not watching the road!

Incorrect. Plenty of focus is on him. Just as plenty of focus is on the woman who jaywalked her bicycle in front of a moving car.
I still place the majority of blame on her. Not Uber. Nor that freak whatever it is.
I saw the car interior video and the “safety driver” is clearly reading/sending texts.
