Parents in several Long Island school districts — Connetquot, Lindenhurst and Rocky Point — complained their children had been disciplined for walking out Wednesday, Newsday reported. “These actions send a terrible message to New York’s children and are against constitutional free speech protections. I call on you to use SED’s authority to stop these schools, reverse course and cease any disciplinary actions,” the governor said.

Free speech means walking out of school for any reason? This is what happens when children are put in charge.

The Florida shooting occurred in part because the thugs on the left wouldn’t create a record of discipline against a kid for his violent misbehavior in school or for his threats against that school. Socialists didn’t want to feed into the “school to prison pipeline”. No record, no impediment to buying a gun, even for a nutcase who should under the laws they pushed for have been barred from buying a gun.

We already know what happens when you tell kids they are so special that rules don’t apply to them. What kind of fool would continue following that strategy?

That's what he's saying, but of course, he doesn't really mean it. "Free speech" means that the state's employees and its school inmates turn out for party-approved events, just like in Cuba or North Korea.

A teacher in (iirc) California was suspended for raising the question of whether the school administration would support a student walkout to protest abortion.

MLK, Caeser Chavez and Rosa Parks and every other real protestor must be rolling over in their graves. Protesting is about taking a risk to make a point that something is that important.

We now have snowflake parents who have no concept of having to work or fight for anything. Their kids are supposed to walk out of class with no consequences? What's that teaching them? They and their kiddies are being manipulated and played by entities that have everything but freedom, safety, and the interests of their useful idiots at heart.

This first got out of hand with Black Lives Matter, ginning up useful idiots to demand an agenda that is not their own. It's Obama's hand....community organizing.

PS: You don't see folks in real danger zones marching to have their right to protect themselves taken away.

I’ll say it again, schools and police scoff at the Fourth Amendment when it comes to warrantless, suspicionless dragnet locker sniffs and searches. Let them explain why the First Amendment was so much more important for them, on that day and time, that it superseded going to class.

Suspend, and grade zeros for the day. Any teachers that participated should also be suspended, if not fired.

In at least one disturbing incident, it was reported that the school physically blocked the exits to prevent students from demonstrating,”

But it is not disturbing to lefty Cuomo that mindless pre college school children are used as pawns by the left wing."

Just out of curiosity, aren’t schools paid out of federal funds based on the number of students in class every day?

If a school conspires to fraudulently count students who are not in class but protesting on the street as in class to fraudulently get federal funds, aren’t they committing a federal crime?

I loved the statement that Liberals don’t want teenagers to be able to purchase guns as they’re apparently not mature enough to use them, but teenagers are smart enough to propose laws to restrict adults from using them.

“This is what happens when children are put in charge.”...

The kids protesting think they are indeed, in charge. There are times and places for their protests but during school hours it is not one of those time or places. Any student that walked out of school should get an “F” for the day. Try skipping school for some other bogus reason and that is what would have happened when ADULTS were in charge.

What would be his reaction to students walking out to protest against the state for not providing quality security at schools?

Every one who left class was truant and should be disciplined accordingly.

Either there are rules or there are not.

“Gov. Andrew Cuomo asked state education officials Thursday to overturn any disciplinary action taken against students who participated in the mass walkout against gun violence.”

The whole point of peaceful protest is that the protester is risking something - their freedom, their time, etc. - in order to make a point that others will pay attention to. If these kids violated published school policies while being out protesting, then they have to learn the adult lesson that “actions have consequences.” I have never seen or heard of a school policy that allows an excused absence for protesting, no matter how worthy the cause may be - so let them be punished.
