According to merriam-webster.com a wimp is a person without strength of character. So yeah, the students walking out of school tomorrow at 10 a.m. local time, for 17 minutes one minute for each of the people murdered by a spree killer at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School are wimps. If they had strength of character . . .
They wouldnt be misled by professional gun control advocates. Civilian disarmers whove convinced them that protesting politicians failure to sacrifice their [future] civil right to keep and bear arms is a good idea. That the NRA is somehow responsible for a madmans slaughter.
Someone who had strength of character would face the hard truth: gun control doesnt work. Like the following items that form the three demands of the students participating in the National Student Walkout [descriptions from the ever-so-supportive journalists at cnn.com]
Ban assault weapons
Require universal background checks before gun sales
Pass a gun violence restraining order law that would allow courts to disarm people who display warning signs of violent behavior
A person with strength of character would examine those proposals carefully, dispassionately, before marching in lockstep out of their classrooms with their peers.
I wonder how many of these students know what an actual assault weapon is. How many are in citizens hands. Why theyre so popular. The percentage of AR-style rifles used in crimes compared to handguns.
I wonder how many of these students know the difference between universal background checks and the current NICS law. How and where criminals get their firearms. The history of gun registration in pre-war Germany. What happened to gun owners during hurricane Katrina.
I wonder how many of these students know that gun violence restraining orders violate the due process clause of the United States Constitution. I wonder if they know what that is, exactly, and why its there.
Not many do, of course. Despite the magnificence of the Internets scope and scale, despite our childrens almost universal access to Al Gores internet (via smartphones), were living in a low-information society. Low as in low-quality.
The vast majority of these students can name Kylie Jenners new child but dont even begin to understand the importance of the Second Amendment to their freedom. Their freedom to search the net for . . . the name Kylie Jenners new child. And their friends Snapchat story about walking out of school to protest guns!
Someone with true strength of character would want to know more. More about this protest than what theyre spoon-fed by statists masquerading as bleeding hearts.
Theyre fed, of course, by their teachers. Teachers who will no doubt smile and beam with pride as their young charges do the bidding of those who would see a country founded on liberty dissolve into tyranny, in the interests of public safety, of course.
While Im at it, I wonder how many teenagers would bother to read this article. And whether it would take them less than seventeen minutes to do so.
Dear students;
You are not the conscience of our nation.
Our U. S. Constitution is.
Get back to us when you grow up, and have some life experience behind you.
I have a 15 year old relative, who “hates” history. We asked about the Holocaust. She didn’t have a clue. (Nor was she impressed, when informed). If she’s an example of future voters, Heaven help us. And mercy upon those who have done this to her; they’re going to need it.
Next will be National Hold Your Breath Day until the 4th amendment is repealed.
Zero! Zip! Zilch!
Public education.
D, I have an even more succinct answer for them:
Dear Students:
GFYourselves.
Kind Regards, The Adults.
How about not let them come back, ever.
The Floridh students should demand that police DO THEIR JOBS.
30+ calls had been made against the shooter.
Several calls reporting that he was a threat to the students.
On the scene the day of the shooting they hunkered down waiting for him to be done. They called it a perimeter but he got through it.
The other department that went to the scene and into the school is now facing charges.
2nd Amendment bump for later.....
Almost every US history I had until HS graduation seemed to hover around the revolutionary war.
They all need to be suspended if they walk out of class.
Dear children (and that’s what you are): you are young. You are still learning. When it comes to living in this world as an independent person you do not know sh*t about anything. When I was this age, my primary concerns were what women looked like naked, science fiction and movies with gratuitous violence. I kind of peripherally saw the events of the day, but filtered through the media, with their “spin” applied. Just like you do now. But now the media is much further left. You haven’t put the time in! You don’t even know when you are being used. You are being used. One day you will realize it. Or you won’t, and you’ll continue to be a liberal ninnyhammer. Churchill said it best: “if, when you are young and are not a liberal, you have no heart. If, however when you are older and are not a conservative, you have no brains”.
CC
They want background checks for gun buyers but they don’t admit that he would’ve passed because even though he’d had dozens of incidents, the police hadn’t entered him into the database.
NEVER!
Who decides what is "warning signs of violent behavior?"
Who defines "warning signs of violent behavior?"
Is a random undocumented accusation enough? Some courts are corrupt.
I would not want corrupt the swamp (FBI, CIA, Justice Department, SPLC) repeating their recent criminal fraud.
FISA warrants, anyone?
Permanently removing a citizen's Second Amendment rights can't be trusted to the existing swamp still populated by tens of thousands of the Manchurian Candidate fake kenyan president's criminal bureaucrats! Or Hillary's paid criminal minions.
