Now is not the time to discourage young people from participating in democracy, not when California, under siege from the Trump administration, needs active and informed voters.

Hear's the deal Sacramento Bee Editorial Board. Schools in California are paid based on Average Daily Attendance (ADA). Schools are given money based on how many students are at school each day. No money is given if the students leave campus to march for whatever cause. The other thing is schools have a bond of trust with parents. Parents drop their kids off at school with the understanding that they will be provided a safe campus and that they will physically be there all school day. What if one of these off campus marchers gets into a fight or hit by a car. The parent assumes his kid is on the school campus but gets a call that he or she is in the hospital. Can you say lawsuit. The schools are opening themselves up to an unconscionable liability here and are violating their bond of trust with parents.

Pop-quiz Day.

This test will be worth 10% of your final grade.

But don’t worry, the questions are not difficult. Just so long as you are present in class.

Voting in California is a joke. The public overwhelmingly passed a measure for traditional monogamous heterosexual marriage and the governor refused to uphold the law at the Supreme Court (who kicked it back down to the state courts that decreed it didn’t matter). Those who petitioned to put the measure on the ballot were told that they didn’t have standing to represent it at the court.

Given that those “journalists” are very likely products of those very same ‘public stools”, the twisted logic of those editorials are understandable.

Journalism, for when you really do not understand the world. And don’t ever want to.

....students around the world, throughout the nation and across California will rise from their desks in the cause of political activism....

And the media will be everywhere with live wall-to-wall coverge and recaps throughout the day and into the night, ad nauseum.

Someone’s missing the point of schools. Or just given up on education and gone completely to indoctrination.

And, how many kids don’t care but are going to be bullied into walking out and making a “democratic statement” that they don’t care about or may even be against?

“Democracy” would involve an honest discussion, followed by the ability for each student to make their own decision. In addition to missing the point of schools, this writer is missing the point of democracy.

At least if the students walkout of school that day, that’s one less day they will be subjected to Common Core lies and the leftist propaganda from the teachers and school books.

The walk-outs present perfect opportunities for young sickos with axes to grind and AR’s (or AK’s) to exercise.

So the kids want to have a gun purchases at 21 years old. Why do they think they are at an age that is responsible enough to make any decisions at all.

Guess you missed certain court decisions. There's no longer any 'bond trust' that kids will remain there; your 13 year old wants to go to an abortion clinic? Yep, they'll facilitate that and can openly lie to you if you happen to call to make sure your child is still at the school...

Their obligation is solely to the liberal ideology they subscribe to. Interfere with that, and they can have you arrested.

The Left wants society to be run by children.

In a perfect world, 17-year old David Hogg would be dictator for life and would run our society exactly the way Soros wants it run.

Our Public School system is a mess.

I like Betsy Devois’s ideas however she is ineffective at promoting serious and significant changes that are required. I think it’s time for beefing up leadership at the Dept of Ed with people who will improve the public school system and the many many problems.

The problem is that the schools can’t dictate which walkouts are allowed without looking like total hypocrites.

So we were practicing Democracy when we left school to protest the lack of THC in our systems?

Does anyone think this fifth-rate newspaper would have published a piece like this in support of students planning to leave school to participate in the Right to Life march?

Easy. Test them at 10 o’clock on the point of democracy. Make the test worth 75% of the term grade. No make up tests.
