SACRAMENTO (Reuters) - California Governor Jerry Brown on Wednesday accused President Donald Trumps administration of declaring war on the most populous U.S. state, after the Justice Department sued to stop policies that protect illegal immigrants against deportation.
The Democratic governor made the charge shortly after Attorney General Jeff Sessions intensified the Republican administrations confrontation with California. In a speech in the state capital, Sessions accused California of obstructing federal immigration enforcement efforts and vowed to stop the states defiance.
Sessions addressed a law enforcement group in Sacramento, a day after the Justice Department filed suit against California, Brown and the states Democratic attorney general over so-called sanctuary policies that shield illegal immigrants.
California absolutely, it appears to me, is using every power it has - powers it doesnt have - to frustrate federal law enforcement. So you can be sure Im going to use every power I have to stop them, Sessions, the top U.S law enforcement officer, said in his speech.
Brown called the attorney generals trip to California a political stunt and his description of Californias laws a lie.
Like so many in the Trump administration, this attorney general has no regard for the truth, Brown told reporters, adding that the laws were crafted with input and support from California police chiefs. This is basically going to war against the state of California.

Moonbat needs to be sharing a prison cell with the sheriff.
Jerry Brown wants this war. There is only upside for him.
“California is in an active state of rebellion against the federal government.”
Against the rule of law, the Constitution and the Trump administration. Mexifornia is not alone...The blue states, the corrupt courts, both parties, the corrupt stasi state(fed govt), and fakestream media are in open rebellion, too.
Did kawlifornia protest when Obummer’s justice dept filed a suit against Arizona to stop enforcing existing federal immigration laws?
DemocRat hippocracy has no limits.
It’s actually an insurrection against the United States Rules of Law and the entire rest of the USA citizens.
So it's is the evil Trump Justice Dept targeting cities just because they are run by Democrats and demonizing those wonderful places by calling them "sanctuaries". Oh, the horror! Trump had to invent this nasty word "sanctuaries" to shame these wonderful utopias!
where is General Sherman when you need him
Typical projection. Didn’t George Wallace say the same thing?
Jeff Sessions must quit. Dont tell us he is going to outsmart anyone. He is a laughing stock on both sides. He never hit the ground running as Attorney General. This is going to patheticly ugly. Would anyone on this site want to go to war with Jeffrey Beauregard Sessions? Maybe if he was 20 years younger but not today.
“Its actually an insurrection against the United States Rules of Law and the entire rest of the USA citizens.”
They are violating our laws with the support of our seditious left wing media. We should start jailing a few of these governors and it would stop.
Moonbeam pointing the finger as usual. It’s inevitable he’s going to dodge responsibility for his actions. Always does.
He’s the governor. He’s the person behind all the subversive activities happening in this State. Jerry Moonbeam Brown has nobody but himself to point to, and the people of this State had better figure that out soon.
No. California is waging war against the USA.
“Jeff Sessions must quit. Dont tell us he is going to outsmart anyone. He is a laughing stock on both sides.”
Which is why you have moonbeam and many others coming right out and mocking ‘our’ AG. Basically telling him to stick it.
If Sessions had any honor he would fire everyone at the DOJ and then commit seppuku.
When does California demand the handover of the Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton?
California Uber Alles..
The fight is worth it to the monopolistic Democrat leadership of the state and cities because there is a huge amount of money involved. The $23B annual cost of illegals in California doesn't mean that we hand the illegals $23B in spending money. The direct cash assistance is only $3-4B. The rest is spent on salaries for mostly unionized US citizens and legal residents employed by the companies, school districts, hospitals, state and local governments (including prosecutors, public defenders and correctional officers), and many, many so-called non-profit aid organizations (paying their execs $300-400K per year) that deal with the illegals.
So these legal providers of services to illegals now represent about 8% of the California economy. For some of the non-profits this money supports their very livelihood and existence and their exec's big salaries. The government employees unions know that 15-25% of their members make a living servicing illegals, that's a lot of dues. These people help elect the law-breaking hacks in the California legislature, the governor and the attorney general. If we ever deported all illegals, this would all go away and jobs, money and power of these legal individuals would disappear. This is now a big enough constituency to openly resist enforcing immigration laws even if that initially just involves the criminal illegals.
So will Moonbeam use the second amendment to raise a militia?
Yes, but it is a very short-termed upside.
Long-term history will show Mister Brown to be a power-frustrated lunatic. (Recall, he's been a primary candidate before, and embarrassed himself, and now is apparently beyond sanity with fictional power.)
The loons in California have been waging a war against the US for decades. It’s about time they get a taste of their own medicine. I say, build the wall around California, and don’t allow anyone in or out.
Moonbeam made the mistake of getting on Jeff’s bad [pot] side. Nevermind all other CA transgressions and seditions: this is the hill they die on. Quite hysterical, imo. Jeff beat the 9.0 in taking them down.
