ary D. Cohn, President Trumps top economic adviser, plans to resign, becoming the latest in a series of high-profile departures from the Trump administration, White House officials said on Tuesday.
The officials insisted there was no single factor behind the departure of Mr. Cohn, who heads the National Economic Council. But his decision to leave came after he seemed poised to lose an internal struggle amid a Wild West-style process over Mr. Trumps plan to impose large tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
Gary has been my chief economic adviser and did a superb job in driving our agenda, helping to deliver historic tax cuts and reforms and unleashing the American economy once again, Mr. Trump said in a statement to The New York Times. He is a rare talent, and I thank him for his dedicated service to the American people.
Mr. Cohn is expected to leave in the coming weeks. He will join a string of recent departures by senior White House officials, including Mr. Trumps communications director and a powerful staff secretary.

Now Trump will NEVER win on Super Tuesday!
...oh wait.
There is NOTHING to fear in a trade war when we are bleeding $800 BILLION EVERY YEAR in trade deficits.
Actually if a trade war indeed is started by China & EU & anyone else, Their UNemployment rates will rocket up. We will again have middle class manufacturing jobs.
I am old enough to remember when I paid $300 (inflation adjusted) for a pair of Florsheim dress shoes. But the average wage in our manufacturing plant was $80/hr (inflation adjusted). So we all could afford to buy American made stuff, which used to be excellent quality.
great!
Thank you for telling his dirty lil secret. No more secrets for him!
President Trump,
I will be your economics advisor, but for double the pay.
Mr. Cohn supported destructive Carbon taxes and America Last, for which he properly got the boot. So he was only worth half the price.
Bump
Heh. Here’s my opening. I was always doubtful, let’s say, of Trump. The first I knew of him was from his Atlantic City casino. Well, he survived that by bailing out ... OK. Then Trump Tower appeared in Chicago, so okay, staying power.
But the one moment that got me on his side was from his TV show. I happened to be watching a segment when some snippy girl intern laid into a hapless boy intern for passing out large water bottles at a meeting, because they were “too big.” The guy was like, “Aw come on.” The girl followed it up with an outline that it was awkward, distracting, whatever.
Trump listened to this then said, to her, “You know, you’re right.” Then to the guy, “You’re fired!”
You know, she WAS right! Trump scored big with me there, however trivial such matters may be!
So what? People don’t work out, or they leave, they’re gone.
You seem upset. Did you vote for Cohn or Trump?
No fear
Good. There was nothing about that guy that screamed MAGA
Trump fires Cohn. I guess we will need another Special Counsel.
Nailed it. The US is the world's biggest and most lucrative market. What country wants to cut off its nose to spite its face? The US has all the leverage and finally we have a President willing to use it.
Word on radio news was that it was a result of an internal dispute over free trade. No biggie.
How would Kudlow do in that job?
AMF, Enjoy the Hamptons. Leave us normals alone.
You have a brain?
Unlike the perfect you that has never hired a mistake, Trump corrected his.
Buh bye.
He dip stick we've been in trade war for decades. Are you dumb or just stupid?
