Polands leaders will not be allowed to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump or Vice President Mike Pence until Warsaw repeals its controversial new Holocaust law.
Polish web portal Onet.pl (owned by Axel Springer, also a co-owner of POLITICO Europe) on Tuesday reported that it had obtained a memo from Washington dated February 20 about the law, which makes it illegal to suggest that the Polish state or the Polish nation were complicit in Nazi crimes. The information has been confirmed by other Warsaw-based media.
This had better not be true.
Between the EU and this idiocy, it sure looks like the U.S. and its European allies are doing their best to drive Poland and Hungary back into a Warsaw Pact with Russia.
This can’t be a US law. Congress can’t limit the actions of the President or VP like that. I am not saying that Congress can’t pass such a law. Its just that the courts would not uphold it.
Poland would never go to the Kremlin.
If they have to stand alone, that’s what they’ll do.
To protest restrictions on speech, we are going to prohibit conversations?
I can guess who pushed this policy.
Poland saved Western Civilization twice. First at the Siege of Vienna in 1683 and Second at the Battle of Warsaw 1920. Then they were betrayed by the Allies in WW2.
This would be the exact opposite of President Trump’s campaign rhetoric.
This ...
It carries a sentence of up to three years in prison for anyone anywhere in the world ...
... is a sign of loose screws.
How are the Poles responsible for the Holocaust, when they were under Nazi occupation?
It was inexplicably stupid for Poland to have passed this law in the first place. So pointless, it makes me think Soros was behind it somehow.
I dont like this at all. Poland is one of the very few allies whom we can actually trust.
I stand with Poland.
Could it be leftover Obama policy or EO ?
Leave it to the media to be judge/jury and executioner. They do it all the time.
A powerful foreign lobby might find a way to enforce such limitation unofficially.
This is not about free speech at all. This is hardly interest of the USA to go into this argument with Poland.
The law itself is useless however at appears that because of this the Poles will learn who is standing with them and who is not.
But not whispering or mumbling. Low talkers are ok, too.
Where’s the memo ?
