President Trump’s Thursday decision to begin the process of keeping his campaign promise to protect the American industrial base by imposing tariffs on imported steel and aluminum has seemingly gotten everyone in a tizzy, oddly uniting Big Business, top globalists, the IMF, the GOP Establishment and even liberal Democrats, all of whom never agree on anything yet are united that this particular decision will mean nothing short of an economic apocalypse for the United States.

If it is upsetting Big Business, top globalists, the IMF, the GOP Establishment and liberal Democrats then it is most likely a good thing for the People of the United States.

What's interesting about this issue is that the supporters and opponents of these tariffs are BOTH right -- from the points of view of their respective constituents.

If I work for an aluminum producer in the U.S., I'm a big fan of the tariff. If I work for Boeing and I've been making airplane wings with imported aluminum for the last five years, I don't like this tariff at all.

Everyone who pipes in on this panic of what they believe Trump’s tariffs will cause are exposing themselves as One World Globalists. They know Trump forcing other countries we trade with to remove or lower their tariffs on US goods will slow down the roll toward an elitist utopia.

FNC took Charles Payne back so why not Eric Bolin??????

What's the problem - sure Bolin is white but he still deserves another look.

After all, he and his poor wife suffered the maximum blow of having their son taken by his dependence on drugs who wound up dead!

Eric probably committed whatever he did during a time when his drinking was out of control.

FNC has a reputation of working with their employees who definitely need help - look at Greg Jarrett, FNC gave him not one but two bad errors and he's back and better than ever now!

Even God allows for Second Chances, when our hearts are broken.

"Anheuser-Busch, the largest beer maker in world, said the plan would “put jobs at risk and would be against the US consumer."

Actually InBev, who acquired Anheuser-Busch in 2008.

What about all the illegals raising the prices of health care, schools, etc., while lowering wages.

It’s kind of funny, tariffs are seen as an evil cause of “trade wars” which jeopardize the entire global economy — but only when the US makes use of tariffs.

Other countries always have tariffs. No big deal. No trade war. No global economic calamity. But if the US does that sort of thing, the sky is falling. Some people think Smoot-Hawley started the Great Depression. It didn’t. And Trump’s tariffs won’t hurt us either.

We can play the game everybody else plays. They just don’t like it when we win.

The big fish are upset because their money bets are placed on the expectation of the continuing hollowing out of America, the worse America does the more they make while American citizens are reduced to poverty and slavery.

The businesses just want cheaper steel and aluminum. Period. Not too worried about national security.

The fact is our ability to produce high quality steel and aluminum has been greatly reduced as China and others flood our market with (government subsidized) cheap steel and aluminum, putting our companies out of business.

As a nation, we need the steel and aluminum manufacturing capacity as a matter of national security.

This is a Trump shot across the bow; keep dumping your goods in any industry and we will retaliate. Leadership, for a change. I think we can afford a few cents more for a can of soda/ beer.

Repercussions are so over-hyped!

We have been in a “trade war” for decades and we are loosing. Apparently like Islamic jihad; this is just another battle our “betters” are too craven or traitorous to fight.

How can I be racist when Charles Payne is up high on my list of good guys?

Ok, here’s how it is going down.

There exists a world accepted (that would mean global) list of all the products in the world. It is called the Harmonized Tariff Schedule 2018. According to the list, we know what products exported are tariffed by every nation. Conversely we know what items from every specific nations are tariffed by us.

Trump is going to take the Harmonized Tariff List and after listening to all the tons of CEO’s he has met with, can laser like zoom in on a specific item from a specific country. I am certain he has a list of what have been sorted out as the worst offenders and a separate list of lesser offenders. He will go after a very selective number on both lists.

Here’s the Harmonized Tariff Schedule

Remember, back in 1981 the Japanese automakers were effectively destroying the US auto industry. All that 1.68 million car import quota imposed did was force the Japanese (and eventually the Germans and South Koreans) to open US plants, and that still did a lot of damage to US automakers anyway.

I think the threat of tariffs on steel and aluminum has to really scare the Chinese, who would suddenly see their market dry up unless they too start investing in US-based metal smelting and refining plants. Watch China Baowu Steel Group, Hesteel Group Company Limited, and other Chinese producers buying up old US steel refineries and/or opening new ones to avoid trouble.

if they would be willing to pay more for products to make a transition back to US production and everyone said ‘yes.’”

The thing that folks miss is that profit goes to investment goes to future growth and technology advancement goes to future profit.

To whose benefit do you want that future growth to accrue, the U.S. or China?

As Nathan Rothschild famously quipped, "compound interest is the 9th wonder of the world."

Prices on some things will go up, making it profitable for USA-based companies to begin producing the commodity.

Nobody mentions that American steel is far superior, welds up much better, and passes exray at a much better rate. In the long run less expensive.

Note it is the huge multinationals that are most vociferous against tariffs because the Apples, Boeings, etc have been net beneficiaries of having their products manufactured overseas and are able to trade with more fluidity with the world. The give up is for the small benefit multinationals obtain which is an infinitesimal part of our economy the rest of out economy where the growth is, i.e, small and medium sized companies have their products locked out of China and other trade partners taking advantage of us.If the threat of tariffs get these nations to open up to the rest of our economy for exports we will be huge beneficiaries.
