It's sweetness and light between NRA and Trump after he chummed the water on gun control
American Thinker ^ | March 2, 2018 | Thomas Lifson

When President Trump made his startling comment during bipartisan televised White House gun discussions about taking guns first and due process later, I suspected he was doing the same thing he had done during similar immigration discussions a few weeks earlier. He likes to toss out ideas and let them be debated.

He heartens his opponents, and because they are so emotionally driven, they overreach, and he comes across looking reasonable while they look extreme.

His proposal for a deal, when it comes, seems reasonable to the public.

This is "unpresidential" behavior because in the previously existing culture of politics, a president must not speak until all the implications and ramifications of an idea have been researched and buttoned down.

But for President Trump, being unpresidential is not bug. It is a feature.

This time, as with illegal immigration, his opponents, intoxicated by what they eagerly embrace as a wedge between the president and his enthusiastic backers in the Civil Rights Movement, Second Amendment Division, let it all hang out, as Susan Ferrechio of the Examiner reported yesterday afternoon: "Democrats to propose weapons ban, gun confiscation powers in bill inspired by Trump."

Shortly after this came out, news arrived that the NRA's Chris Cox had met with the POTUS in the Oval Office and is confident that the Second Amendment is quite safe.

Never give an inch to the anti-gun forces. They have very little to bargain with at the negotiating table.
They have National Reciprocity, and machine gun bans. NOW, what GUN RIGHTS will we give up in get these back?

Won’t it be wonderful when all public buildings have single entrances, metal detectors and armed guards demanding to see your papers!

We’ll be so safe then!

An entity located on an Eastern Kentucky county offered to buy and install metal detectors in all their schools following the shooting in Marshall county.

The school authorities declined; no matter how efficient the machines might be, it would still result in a massive bottleneck during the beginning and ending of the school day. Which would result in a target-rich environment for potential troublemakers

Did you read the article?

A lot of people were freaking when Trump was saying DACA this and DACA that and talking compromise. What happened? The f***wit Dems refused to bend one millimeter from their insane demands and so no bill got passed. Result? As of March 5 DACA is dead. Dems got nothing.

Same thing is happening here. Dem bill is demanding making all semi-auto fire arms illegal. No bill with anything like that in it will pass.

Everyone is getting their minds all freakified for nothing.

The other thought on that would be that at least the commie democrats would not have 17 bodies hoisted up in a grand parade in DC pushing for gun control. None of the measures taken for access to any public bldg I have entered have been disruptive or hindering to me or anybody else I know of. Now we are faced with calls for raising the gun purchase to 21, which I think is a good idea, when the police and everyone responsible for these deaths are way over 21 and still are not to be trusted to use a gun when called for. Security measures are taken for individuals who can afford them and all commercial bldgs as well as federal etc. The only intrusive and irritable measures are carried out in airports and is one reason I avoid flying in favor of ground transportation. Americans have to do what is necessary to protect vulnerable schools. Which is not ignoring hospitals etc but addressing our current murder of 17 people by a student who was a known time bomb waiting to explode.

Same ones freaking about this are continuing to freak about Sessions.

People need to look beyond the superficial, and study up on Trump’s actual methods.

Trump shouldn’t have even talked about guns at all.

I doubt DJT will confiscate guns or anything close to it. Even the NRA kept Buttcrack O on a dog leash for 8 years. Someone tell these Freepers to quit breaking the emergency glass..

People on FR are a bunch of nervous nellies.

When it comes to the Second Amendment, my name is Nelly Nervosa, the third.

With good cause.

I was waiting for Trump’s gun control statement to turn liberals into defenders of the Second Amendment. They can’t be seen agreeing with this president, after all.
