President Trump is raising tariffs 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum, claiming that cheap steel from other countries has hurt the American steel industry. His claim, that steel imported at lower prices hurts our steel industry, is certainly true.
But talk show host Mark Levin says Trump's tariffs are crony capitalist gifts for wealthy steel-owners that are bad for the economy as a whole. On his talk show last night, he listed a number of reasons why:
1. Industries that depend heavily on steel, such as auto and airplane manufacturers, will take a big hit. With the increase in the price of steel, they will have to increase the price of cars and planes, reducing sales and profits, and ultimately, these manufacturers will have to fire employees to compensate for the inevitable losses.
2. Industries that even peripherally rely on steel will be affected as well. Just think of any business that needs anything made of steel, whether it be cars, refrigerators, trucks, stoves, computers, or any number of other things. They will all have to raise prices to compensate.
3. The ultimate end purchasers of anything made of steel, or anything made with steel, will have to pay higher prices. Levin frames this as a loss of liberty, which is correct, and, equally important, as a tax that punishes the American people. Every time you pay more for a car or a boat or a can of beans or even a loaf of bread, which is made in an oven, which, guess what, is made of metal, you will have to pay more. Because metal is so ubiquitous in manufacturing, Trump's tax will make you pay higher prices for nearly everything you buy.

If the steel industry flourishes in the USA, most of Levins points wont matter.
Here he goes again.
Free trade is a mug’s game. Fair trade is the proper aim.
That’s like saying Lyn’ Ted is not a Never Trumper. Loser Levin is even here not supporting Trump. Dress him up any way you want be he was and is a Never Trumper.
The chinese are eating our lunch, and that lunch was given to them by a bunch people looking to make a buck at any cost, up to handing our manufacturing base over to a bunch of communists.
I mean, what could possibly go wrong here? WTF are these people thinking?
My bet is that they sold the US out over the last 30 years thinking that they could get theirs, screw over the domestic market, and retire to some far off country.
At this point, our domestic manufacturing base has been decimated, like a carpet bombed germany. This has been going on for thirty plus years. Almost two whole generations.
We now do not have the resources, knowledge, manpower, or capital to even revive basic industries if the communist chinese decided to put an embargo on the US.
People just don’t realize how much of our consumer goods are either directly or indirectly sourced out of china.
With this steel an aluminum tariff thing. This is direct tariffs on metal stock. It doesn’t do squat for all of the FINISHED goods and parts which are an order of magnitude greater than any raw stock.
Trump always has a strategy for what he does. This isn’t meant to cause a trade war. It is meant to solidify the rust belt states, especially after Janus v AFSCME is ruled in favor of Janus.
At that point the unions are dead so prices will come down as expenses come down. Quality will also go up which will then have more foreign buyers.
And I suspect the employer would be leaning on the local public schools to focus more time on teaching marketable skills and less on SJW nonsense.
It is only a tax if u buy the product that has a tariff on it.
Plenty of compatable buying choices out there.
Move or build plants in the US and avoid tariffs.
And create more American jobs.
I love how this tariff is smoking out the globalist sellouts.
Yes, in DC, NYC....and, here.
“When I think that Hillary came close to being president but Trump stopped her, I dont care what Trump does. Hell always have my support.”
Had a similar thought a couple days ago when reading about Oprah’s new movie, which I will refuse to pay to see.
With BJ’s wife, we’d have been the (original) citizens of Camazotz by now.
And also HE VOTED FOR TRUMP.
he was and is a Never Trumper.
The Trump Cult speaks.
It has helped US steel manufacturers somewhat but benefits manufacturers outside the US who aren't required to purchase US materials.
What is IC? We should know this?
Not in a million ears would I have known that.
Pet peeve of mine.
RE: Thats like saying Lyn Ted is not a Never Trumper. Loser Levin is even here not supporting Trump.
Does one have to be in lockstep with everything Trump does even when he thinks Trump is wrong on an issue? What is Trump? God?
Levin supported Trump on -— The “Russian Collusion” investigation ( he was one of his toughest defenders, even going om TV against the WaPo and the mainstream media ).
Levin supported Trump on the Gorsuch nomination
Levin supported Trump on the building of the Wall.
Levin supported Trump on de-regulation of businesses and the pipelines.
Levin supported Trump on his pro-life initiatives.
Levin supported Trump when he decided to move the US embassy to Jerusalem.
Levin defended Trump on the many media and Hollywood attacks against him.
etc. etc. etc ( I could go on ).
Now that he disagrees with Trump on this one issue which many conservatives disagree on — what do I hear — He’s a NeverTrumper? NONSENSE.
It is a poor policy. Why are foreign prices lower? Rules etc. passed by Congress raised American costs. In time believe the Presidents programs will correct this imbalance, but it takes time. Tariffs are not the best way to correct and may be harmful.
Now that he disagrees with Trump on this one issue which many conservatives disagree on what do I hear Hes a NeverTrumper? NONSENSE.
Sorry, you can’t unring the Never Trump bell. Levin barely lifted a finger to defeat Hillary Criminal and her SCOTUS during the general election. That is way more than “one issue” and Levin’s Never Trump bonafides are well established. Sorry.
Integrated circuits..... ram, rom, cpus, etc
Do you not remember reagans Presidency
We need to restore Made in America.
Everything we buy is Made in China, an enemy of our country.
Our industries cannot compete and get destroyed.
Free trade is for nations who have a market system.
