Trump meets with NRA officials again

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence met with National Rifle Association officials Thursday night at the White House -- the second time in less than a week that he's had such a meeting.

"Good (Great) meeting in the Oval Office tonight with the NRA!" the president tweeted.

Following the meeting, NRA executive director Chris Cox tweeted, "I had a great meeting tonight with @realDonaldTrump & @VP. We all want safe schools, mental health reform and to keep guns away from dangerous people. POTUS & VPOTUS support the Second Amendment, support strong due process and don’t want gun control. #NRA #MAGA."

Trump had a lunch meeting with NRA leaders last Sunday -- including Cox and NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre -- and during a gathering of governors on Monday, he told the lawmakers to not be "afraid" of the group.

What seems to be a blind faith in Trump’s 3d chess, may be just fear. We really have all our eggs in his basket and if he turns against us on an important issue, we have no alternative. The country is lost.

My personal fear is that we have passed the point of no return long ago. The country was lost in the classrooms at every level of education, and there is no plan to change that.

If the NRA leaders are coming out of meetings with POTUS and they are happy, then I am happy. We cannot win anything without coordination. We must have leaders and trust them. When the NRA says it is time to abandon Trump, THEN it will be the time!

The assumption is that Trump is playing chess.

He may not be.

But it’s not clear that’s what he’s doing, given his past statements on RKBA issues.

Trump decried American interference in foreign disputes. When he caught wind of a rumor that Syria had gassed its own people, he chucked his position and launched cruise missiles.

Trump has a practice, it seems, of changing his "deeply felt" positions, when he's emotionally moved. That is not principled.

I'm not exactly comfortable with the level of naked duplicity on Trump's part such a strategy would indicate.

I agree.

Only the Leftists should use naked duplicity.

I don’t have a good feel for what he’ll do. He could have just let Feinstein throw everything in the bill cause he knew that would ensure that the House would blow it to hell.

"Good (Great) meeting in the Oval Office tonight with the NRA!" the president tweeted.

I think Trump has been getting some feedback on some of his statements lately. The NRA is merely a figurehead and it symbolically represents a whole h3ll of a lot more people than just it's membership would convey.

If Trump goes anti-gun, he cannot possibly win another election.

I am hoping his recent statements are just part of his "rope-a-dope" tactics, and do not represent a serious shift in policy.

Feinstein’s face and gesture was truly a Kodak moment. I hope some Freeper files it for us.

Love when he has these LIVE meetings with the press present.

It gives us an opportunity to see people like Feinstein as they are. She sure screwed up with her "Bad witch of the North" gestures and made a fool of herself.

“I’d bet this goes like DACA
1) Trump offers a GREAT deal to liberals (knowing they won’t take it)
2) Dems turn it down because “the resistance” cannot allow Trump to get a “win”.
3) Gun control dies and Dems can’t use it as much as they’d like since they turned down such a good deal.
4) The media moves back to Russia,Russia,Russia or the next Trump scandal.”

Someone who gets it.

Are you aware that Free Republic is a Pro-Trump forum?

Unfortunately we have already lost major ground on the 2nd amendment. We now have a tsunami of leftist companies pushing a kooky gun control bent with raising the age to 21. Taking guns due to some anonymous police reports. Pam Bondi saying the President supports the 2nd amendment and due process yet they are doing exactly the opposite. I'm just sad our President has truly lost some of the shine directly because of these totalitarian comments. I hope he can get it back but something just feels different now.

We were very close to making suppressors legal and possibly even a repeal of the NFA. We have lost a decade of progress and this time I don't think we are going to get it back.

Come join us in God’s Country! We’re in TN, but a lot of nice Bible Belt areas.

> Gun control is the Holy Grail for Dems. They wouldn’t care WHO gave it to them if they could get it.

The supreme court is the holy grail. They planned on getting that with Hillary, then congress becomes irrelevant for gun control or anything else. As long as LA, SanFran, NYC and a few other places select the president, they could rule the country with 6 liberals (president + SC). They could make or repeal any law they want.

They’ve already had a huge setback with the SC. If they don’t take back the senate this year it could take decades to get where they want.

If a Trump “win” or a R congress passing gun control will make it more likely for Rs to keep the senate then Ds are against it. Forget your anti-2nd go-worker who would love any gun restrictions. Think about Pelosi and the other “leaders” who are acting long-term.

Too many of these posters are not what they claim to be.

The AFL-CIO, DU, George Soros, Vladimir Putin and various Chinese, Iranian and Turkish groups are all using social media forums to confuse and subvert anyone opposing them.

So, what are we left with? Who are we supposed to believe? Trump appears to be talking out of both sides of his mouth?

He doesn’t have a solid, conservative background to feel comfortable about. In fact, the opposite is true.

The only thing that I’m convinced of is that he loves America. I think that, unfortunately, he’s just now having the internal debate about the 2nd amendment. And he’s having it in an emotionally charged environment. Who are the better salesmen? Will logic and clear thinking win out over emotion?

This is yet another example of Trump playing the Democrats - another rope a dope - like DACA. BTW a judge thinks he has stopped DACA kick outs - really? We’ll see.
When you read all of this “terrible” the sky is falling crap about Trump losing remember when he called out McCain as the fraud he is. And the lie that he said ALL Mexicans are rapists and murderers? What happened? Exactly my point. WE didn’t elect Trump GOD did. Trump was send by God to straighten out this country. PERIOD.
