I’m thinking that didn’t work out well in the long run.

An old, old joke’s punchline:
And some of them Fokkers were flying Messerschmidts.

Interesting article. Photos for sale if anyone is interested. Can't get much of it here due to excerpting. These are all pilots of Richtoffens flying circus, Jagdgeschwader 1. Goering was an accomplished pilot. Leader of the Circus after Snoopy put Richtoffen down, or some Australian grunt firing up. One short lived leader, a cousin of the Baron I think, then it was Goering's unit. Around 20 kills.

In revenge, Lt Auer painted the six-pointed Jewish symbol on the side of his Fokker biplane for Goering to see. Which made Goering a sour kraut.

Auer served in the Luftwaffe in the Second World War. He's lucky to have survived to serve in WWII. Hitler and his gang had long memories.

The Dodge Brothers also chose the Mogen David as their first hood ornament to annoy Goering ...

Auer (pictured sitting in his plane) scored one victory during the First World War..and the headline said he’s an ace?

"At the time there was no anti-Jew issue in Germany, it was just Hermann Goering's personal opinion at the time that he clearly carried with him into the Second World War...."
I'm not sure this is entirely correct, having read Goldhagen's seminal Hitler's Willing Executioners, but find this story fascinating.

Little history: my grandfather fought for the Germans in WWI. And for the Americans in WWII. And then Israel shortly thereafter.
He always said he fought on the correct side of both world wars and on the correct side of the slow start of the third.
