Donald Trump, a Manhattan real-estate mogul who had traveled with his own personal security for years, had never really been a gun guy.
In his 2000 book, The America We Deserve, he wrote, I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.
Even in his remarks accepting the (NRA) endorsement, Trump made comments that suggested he found owning a lot of guns . . . kind of worrisome. My sons are members, Trump declared. They have so many rifles, so many guns, that even I get concerned. I say, Thats a lot!
Wednesday we learned that the Trump White House . . . might not be all that different from the Clinton White House on guns after all. During a meeting with Vice President Pence and senior senators . . .
Trump endorsed the Assault Weapons Ban. Trump endorsed background checks for private sales at gun shows. Trump endorsed raising the age to purchase firearms to 21. Trump declared the top priority of the NRA since Trumps election, concealed-carry reciprocity, will never pass. (This bill would ensure that if you have a valid concealed-carry permit in your home state, you are allowed to carry a concealed weapon in any state.) Trump contended members of Congress were petrified of the NRA and that he was not. They have great power over you people. They have less power over me. Finally, Trump contradicted his own vice presidents assurances about due process and basically contended that the government should seize firearms from people it deems dangerous and go back and get legal justification later.

So, you’re saying even Mitch McConnell has a better grasp of the Second Amendment than Trump. High praise indeed.
I think that Mitch and Don talk. Don’t you? Trump knows there will be no gun control legislation. He just loves to bait the Democrats into saying no to what they want.
This is DACA 2.0
Exactly. Florida has the Baker Act that is tailor-made for that murderer. Hollowing out 2A is a very bad substitute for what SHOULD have happened when Broward County and the FBI had everything they needed to move on the murderer.
Yes. The actions (cutting and holding a gun to the head) by the killer would have activated the state’s Baker Act.
Still reading this, a transcript of a call to the FBI on his IG posts...

>>Raising the age on rifles in addition to AR15s is gonna lose him Michigan. I guarantee it.<<
I agree. And numerous other states.
And how does this square with the 17-20-year-olds who serve? This makes no sense. It’s not the age... it’s the behavior. A good friend’s son joined the Marines at 17. And he was damn sure that not only was he prepared for any PT they could throw at him, but that his marksmanship was squared away. No one needed to escort this kid to the range once he turned 18.
That means your privacy with your doctor is protected and not available to the government unless you sign it away.
>> POTUS thinks out loud, by that I mean he says exactly what thoughts he is entertaining. <<
He might want to rethink that tactic when it comes to verbalizing thoughts that knock on the door of violating Constitutional rights.
Let’s assume that he is trustworthy enough to never infringe on our rights in any way. Do you want to leave that door open for whoever’s next... or the one after that? I don’t.
>>I am pretty much a single issue voter, though, and that issue is the 2nd Amendment. Infringe and you’ll never get my vote again.<<

Copied from a search result:
HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) is United States legislation that provides data privacy and security provisions for safeguarding medical information.
>>But hes a city boy and he grew up in and around a place where even the GOP tends to not respect the 2d Amendment.
We can pretend hes playing a long game or we can remind him that his supporters believe in the 2d Amendment.<<
Absolutely. And for the long game, if the left sees that we aren’t willing to lift a finger to protect 2A, they’ll file that away for certain use.
Tucker had on a couple of Republicans talking about how terrible it was that Trump suggested ignoring due process in disarming someone based on a determination by police alone.
The question that came to mind was, "Where are the Democrats complaining about a plain violation of the Fifth Amendment right to due process?" When the dust settles, it may be possible to point out that NONE of the liberals even raised an eyebrow about violating due process.
We'll see.
You are not alone. So far this week I have dumped Norton 360, a Symantec product, from my computer and I have cut up and replaced my First National Bank of Omaha credit card.
I wish I could do more.
He has VERY thick skin. Many people would have crumbled under the withering attack he has not only survived but overcome.
One trait that supports this is his willingness to look ignorant or inconsistent. He simply doesn't care. He is sufficiently confident in his own abilities and dares to use his authority to get things done.
Later, after the battle has been fought, we may find Trump suggesting that violating due process is a bad idea and that he appreciates his advisers setting him straight. He can further point out that further investigation shows that such violations wouldn't even have been necessary in the Parkland incident; there are already laws against making terrorist threats or assaulting someone with a gun.
Getting his opposition to overstep their own best interests is part of Trump's art. We'll see.
I think you’re right.
People should not underestimate Trump.
“Crazies. Criminals. He was talking about them.”
I must have missed the section of the Constitution that excludes these “crazies” from due process. Care to enlighten me/us?
NATIONAL REVIEW SUCKS. Never trust NR. I hate all of them. Trump is drawing fire, just like he did with DACA. Go F yourself, Jim. And I’m not tuning in to Rush anymore. Sick of the McCarthy EIB network.
“Well fear not. Mitch McConnell just announced all gun bills in the senate are being put on hold indefinitely”
Let me take a W.A.G., this is some sort of bad thing right?
He might want to rethink that tactic when it comes to verbalizing thoughts that knock on the door of violating Constitutional rights.

The problem of mental instability and firearms is an extremely complex issue. For example, where do you stand on a wife beater husband and his guns? It’s just that I have seen, what I characterize, as a hyper reactive edginess by Trump supporters on a number of past issues. You can expect such immediate criticism from liberals, but, in my view, there are way too many “conservatives” standing ready to pile on Trump at the drop of a dime. He gets a non stop beating, day out and day in from all quarters. Then, we hear the President just had a two hour sit down last night for the second time with the NRA. At some point you have to develop a level of trust in the guy and not take everything he says extemporaneously as the law.
Thanks marmema. I agree.
Committal for psych review is supposed to be based on observed behavior and not from invasion of medical records.
There was plenty of evidence on Cruz outside of any medical records.
thanks bootless
