Scoop: Besieged Sessions dines with Rosenstein in show of solidarity
Axios ^ | Feb 28, 2018 | staff

If Donald Trump finally follows through on his rage and fires Jeff Sessions, the image with this story will be printed in history books.

Tonight at 7:35pm, the Attorney General strode into a high-end Washington restaurant to dine with his deputy Rod Rosenstein and the Solicitor General Noel Francisco.

The symbolism was unmistakable: the three top ranking officials in the Justice Department appearing together in a show of solidarity on the same day Trump is publicly and privately raging about Sessions.

When Trump sees this photo he'll have to absorb a concept that some of his aides have been trying to impress upon him for nearly a year, since he first began telling them he wanted to get rid of Sessions.

The concept: Fire Sessions, then what next? Are you going to fire Rosenstein too? And then what after that?

Sources close to the situation say today feels different than Trump's usual rages. Sessions' allies are deeply concerned and Trump is totally fed up with his AG.

Trump has been taunting and publicly humiliating Sessions for months now, but his tweet this morning was as rough as any he's sent:

"Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!"

>> I have spent years blaming the people of Illinois, California, New York, and Massachusetts (Oh, I will add Arizona!)for sending such poor representation to Washington for the rest of us to suffer under their legislation and decrees.<<

And rightfully so, but you neglected to cite my home state, which is also among the worst of the worst - MARYLAND!

"but I cannot for the life of me understand how he was so played by sessions."

I think most all of us were played by Sessions... I just KNEW Sessions would make a great AG.... As it turns out...not so much.! Just another stinking, back-biting, swamp dwelling lawyer... Or, so it would seem.. :)

It seems to me that if you were about to lower the boom on a bunch of politicians, the last thing you want is the appearance of a politically motivated with hunt.

It would also seem to be a good idea to point out that your investigator was appointed by the previous administration he is investigating to avoid the appearance of bias.

It would be even better to point out that Congressional Democrats formally demanded the IG Horowitz open up the investigation and the investigation was initiated on their demands (already done)

We shall soon see what happens, but Trump is also right on - it’s time for the IG to disclose the result of his investigation.

The message that they telegraphed with memos to prepare people for the bad news has sunk in to anyone willing to listen and they are losing the initiative and the attention of the American people.

It’s an election year and if there is evidence of massive corruption it needs to be exposed so the guilty can be removed from office.

Why is Trump frozen in fear?

Because he can count votes in the Senate.

He knows, if he fires Sessions, that:

A) This Senate will not confirm a replacement.
B) Ryan will come out of the closet and get Articles of Impeachment through the House
C) That there are at least 15 GOP Senators (19 is the magic number) who would vote to convict right now.

He can't fire Sessions, and he knows it.

Just how do you ascertain the descriptive word, "definitely"?

Is that like the sun definitely rises in the east?

Yeah, I just thought he was useless. But now I think his role has changed to keep the Russian narrative going. He is as dangerous and as much a POS as Mueller is.

under the vacancy reform act Trump can appoint any confirmed official for 210 days. then appoint another one!!http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2017/07/if_donald_trump_fires_jeff_sessions_here_s_how_he_ll_appoint_a_successor.html

this is why i speculate he is frozen in fear. DO IT!!

“What is your highest expectation of what Sessions will do when the IG report is released? And what is your expectation of what Rosenstein will do?”

My highest expectation of Sessions is that he will take the information and if nothing else set up a new special counsel with full scope of anything in the IG report. DOJ needs cleaning out and I’m not even sure Sessions (if he is legit) knows who he can fully trust.

In reality, though, I feel that Sessions wishes more than anything that he not get put in a position to be forced to do anything and wishes all this would just magically go away.

As for Rosenstein, my highest expectation is that he will be satisfied picking his nose. (IOW, that he will stay out of the way)

Sessions #1 oath is to protect and defend the Constitution. For him to have allowed a coup to proceed in front of his very eyes betrays his oath of office.

Partner, we all agree that Mueller is a POS and the sad part is that he is a former "Marine". This has really P.O.ed a lot of freeper folks.

Partner, I like that term "Weasel" to describe Comey, Rosenstein, and Mueller.

Actually, it is sad to write that all of the folks that the America Hating Obama had was a bunch of "Weasels" in his so called administration.

President Trump knew he had a weasel in "Comey" and the main reason Trump fired Comey. Now, he has a weasel as his Atty. General "Jeff Sessions". President Trump needs to part ways with "Jeff Sessions" so he must immediately fire this weasel!!!

We need a new U.S. Attorney General asap. This is the same tactic used by the Clintoons. Lie, deny, obstruct, and do anything but admit you did wrong until you can not lie to get away with the crime.
