Bolstered by an energized base of grassroots activists, Connecticut Democrats on Tuesday picked up a seat in the state House of Representatives thats been held by Republicans for more than 40 years.
Democrat Phil Young, a former member of the town council, beat Republican Bill Cabral in the race to represent the 120th district, which includes most of Stratford.
The seat was open because Republican state Rep. Laura Hoydick was elected mayor, resulting in her resignation from the House in early January.
Nick Balletto, the chairman of the Connecticut Democratic party, called the win historic and said it signifies that voters are increasingly disenchanted with President Donald Trump.

A Republican in Connecticut is like a Republican in Mass. There is nothing remotely conservative or Republican in NE anymore. All that that they did is change the label on the politician to their true sentiments.
If “Republican” DC swampthings don’t start RIGHT NOW to fulfill promises to their voting fodder, they’ll lose everything in November. We knew they were our enemy when they created a situation where crazy, hate-filled John McCain could on his own stop Obamacare. The nation will not survive an election in November that removes their majority,
Like that changes the political balance of power in Blue CT.
Yawn
Buried in the story is that this seat was open in the first place because the Republican who vacated it won an election to another office. Just saying.
Interesting that we seats changing. Are these RINO and Never Trumpers losing? Are they damaged by not supporting Trump? Since there is no headlines saying a Trump supporter lost, that’s my guess. Who wants to go out and vote for a loser Never Trumper?
It’s important to keep in mind that we all knew that Trump’s tax plan would make high tax blue states bluer because of the $10,000 limit on SALT Deductions.
As a native Connecticut resident, it is sad to say that my home state is probably beyond redemption or renewal. CT is a one-party, Leftist Democrat fiefdom. Taxes are sky high, as is state debt. Gov. Malloy wants to impose further tax hikes and NEW taxes, like reinstating tolls on I-95. The states unfounded liabilities, like pensions are through the roof. Its so bad that big employers like GE have fled the state, to Mass. no less! The exodus of people continues. Inner city schools in Hartford, New Haven, and Bridgeport are in horrible shape. Our elected representatives are a Whos Who of Liberal moonbats. As someone who has waged a life long battle against these destructive forces, I can tell you it is heart breaking to lose ones home. Our side is around 40+ % of the electorate and we seem to have been routed. Let us be a warning to others. It can happen to your home too.
We need to primary out every RINO now. Only bold colors will win, no pastels anymore.
Connecticut is the USA’s Latvia.
No great loss. With the SALT deduction limit, its not like Republicans would keep seats in wealthy suburbs in Blue States.
>>Taxes are sky high, as is state debt. Gov. Malloy wants >>to impose further tax hikes and NEW taxes,
SALT deduction limit will make those tax hikes hurt even more. People in CT will blame Trump for his new tax plan, but in reality, it’s the state legislature’s fault for making State and Local Taxes so high in the first place.
I support the SALT limit. Americans in low tax states have been subsidizing the budgets of high tax states for too long.
>>No great loss. With the SALT deduction limit, its not >>like Republicans would keep seats in wealthy suburbs in >>Blue States.
Correct. As a Floridian with no state income tax, I for one am tired of subsidizing the state budgets in the high tax blue states.
Connecticut is a deep-blue state. I’m shocked that any ‘Pubs hold state or local offices.

Sorry, but just how does THAT work?
They’ve already passed ‘tax-cuts’ *snicker* (mandate is ‘gone’, but O’Care is still alive), a budget deal (now w/ $1T+ deficits), they’ve deferred on DACA (guess a silent kill...still going to be used against ‘em come Nov’)...
I fail to see just where they can do SQUAT before Nov. that they’ve promised to do the last, OH, 40yrs+, let alone the last 12
Remember? “We need the House 1st...Now, we need the Senate...Well, if you give us all THREE....Darn, we still don’t have a ‘majority’ majority...OK, THIS time...”
Connecticut sounds like California without the nice weather. Too bad. I suspect there are a lot of moving vans taking the more ambitious and the retired south on I-95 to North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
I look at this as a problem that the RNC needs to address. We are coming up on 40 seats lost recently and no one is blaming Ronna “Mitten Lite” McDaniel, who so far, has proven she is a not up to the job.
They have Republicans in Ct? Wow who knew?
So what? Who cares what the state of CT elects to their statehouse? They are on the ropes anyway.
Bloomberg once ran as a republican, then changed.
The ‘R’ labels in the NE are convenient vacant ‘parking stalls’ for progressives to pull into when democrat slots are full.
