Supreme Court OKs Broad Immigrant Detention Powers
Daily Caller ^ | 2/27/2018 | Kevin Daley

Immigrants detained for removal proceedings may be held indefinitely and are not entitled to a bail hearing, the Supreme Court ruled Tuesday.

The ruling means that immigrant detainees, who are sometimes held for months and years on end, have no recourse to challenge their confinement.

Justice Samuel Alito delivered the opinion for the court, joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Anthony Kennedy. Justices Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch joined most of Alito’s opinion, though they also wrote to say they do not believe the court had jurisdiction to hear the case.

Right. If you are here on a legal visa, that is likely a different matter. I suspect there are some inherent “rights” under a legal visa.

Illegally here? No rights, fast deportation upon request.

What this all highlights is the need for a major revamp of our Immigration and visa system.

We must track who we let in and where they are. Be very specific and diligent about enforcement. For any penalties, immediate deportation unless there is a larger criminal case involved.

And it goes without saying, keep more people from illegally entering, and find out who is here that shouldn’t be.

The 5-3 decision overturns a sweeping ruling from the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that guaranteed a hearing to any immigrant with a pending deportation case. Significantly, the appeals court ruled that burden fell on the government to demonstrate that the immigrant was a danger or a risk to flee.
>

Typical Leftist ‘logic’: Govt must prove the illegal alien is a ‘danger or a flight risk’.

What CRIMINAL is going to stay around?? What’s the current stats on ‘illegals showing up for their hearing’ *SMH*

Where the fark is Congress in dealing w/ this POS ‘court’???

Real ID was supposed to manage that, but then they didn't count on California and Illinois to issue their own state Real ID. What is supposed to happen is if they don't adopt Real ID their state drivers license can't be used to travel on an airline.

The AG doesn't seem to see a need to enforce Federal Laws other than Pot laws so I guess it doesn't really matter. Maybe he can put the IG on it?

I’m with you. WTF is it with allowing states and even localities to set their “own” immigration policies and enforcement guidelines.

I think Sessions is, and has been so long compromised for some reason, that he has no more utility to this country than a set of teats on a bull.

Perhaps they recognized that the President's authority in National Security and immigration was absolute.

If you remember whenObama took office he sued Arizona for having a state law that was exactly like the federal law and the Supreme Court said only the Feds could have immigration laws. Never mind that the Feds have an obligation to protect States from invasion.

It is crap like this that makes my head explode.

Leftists ignore the Constitution and the Law and just do whatever they wish, which is fully expected.

It is the outright lying, hypocrisy and dissembling with a big arrogant smile on their faces that really, Really, REALLY PISSES ME OFF.

It is a BIG EFFING JOKE TO THEM. And NOBODY ever calls them on it. Except Trump...on some things.

I can never understand the insistence from some that the US Constitution should apply to all 7 billion people in the world. Citizenship should mean something right?

Is this a nod toward illegals not having Constitutional protections, as the Obama administration liked to argue (that they did)?
