The United States is a nation of immigrants no longer, at least according to the mission statement for the federal agency that issues green cards and visas.
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services revised its mission statement Thursday to remove the phrase nation of immigrants, director L. Francis Cissna told staffers in a email.
Heres the old mission statement:
USCIS secures Americas promise as a nation of immigrants by providing accurate and useful information to our customers, granting immigration and citizenship benefits, promoting an awareness and understanding of citizenship, and ensuring the integrity of our immigration system. And the new one:
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services administers the nations lawful immigration system, safeguarding its integrity and promise by efficiently and fairly adjudicating requests for immigration benefits while protecting Americans, securing the homeland, and honoring our values. In his email to staffers, Cissna wrote, I believe this simple, straightforward statement clearly defines the agencys role in our countrys lawful immigration system and the commitment we have to the American people.

The days of unfettered immigration are over.
This isn’t the 19th century and we do have vast tracts of wilderness that needs settlers and pioneers to tame........................
oops! .....NOT HAVE..........
No,no.
European descendants ? = Nation of Immigrants.
Illegal Alien parents ? = American Citizens.
Good to see young Mr. Cissna doing his job.
Most of my family was here before the revolution, so we are not immigrants.
So-called “Native Americans” are “immigrants” too, they came from Asia.
At least they didn’t squat on somebody else’s land.
“we’re all full here, move on!”
A bit OT, but I’m equally rankled by the phrase “to our customers.”
Government doesn’t have customers; it has slaves. We are forced to pay our taxes; it is not a voluntary transaction. To be a “customer,” you have to enter into a voluntary exchange of goods or services and money. You are not a “customer” when one party is shaking you down.
No government agency should call its taxpayers “customers.” Ever.
/Rant. Now back to your original thread topic...
It would also be helpful if everyone would recognize the word “immigrant” means one who is in this nation lawfully. This is the way it was understood to be a years ago when I was in LE, and it is the way it should be now.
Our ancestors were, indeed, immigrants to this land, but they were here lawfully.
The bad guys have changed the definition. Lets change it back to what it really means.
The bad guys are “illegal aliens.”
NO:
A Nation Of Wetbacks And Illegal KenyansYES: A Nation Of legal Immigrants
hahaha!!!!
Well, we can ship all the “dreamers” to the interior of Alaska...
I think you might have misunderstood... the “customers” they were talking about are not the citizens, they are the big businesses who acquire cheap labor from the compliance of the immigration authorities.
The majority of my American ancestors were born in this land before it became the United States. Most were early settlers. Some were native Americans. My last ancestor to arrive here as an immigrant came during the Potato Famine, 173 years ago.
No nation on earth is a “nation of immigrants” They may be a nation of people descended from immigrants... America is supposed to be a melting pot... what passes for liberalism in modern politics has turned it into a balkanized state.
Nation of citizens. Winning, winning, winning!!!!!!!!!
