One week after a mass shooter Nikolas Cruz murdered 17 people inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, Broward's top cop on Thursday revealed a stunning series of failures by the sheriffs department.
A school campus cop heard the gunfire, rushed to the building but never went inside instead waiting outside for another four agonizing minutes as Cruz continued the slaughter.

I am sure you are correct. I want to see what this Scot Peterson looks like. If he is an out of shape blob who would have had a heart attack in any confrontation with a shooter. He filed for his retirement and pension today.
Unless you were in this mans shoes, dont criticize. I remember getting very rudimentary active shooter training when I was a cop. The powers that be wanted cops who responded first at scene, to go in and become human targets for the shooter or shooters. We were told it didnt matter that we were armed with only our service weapon, while the bad guys are all gunned up. Go in,get shot, keep the civilians happy that a cop got shot too!!
And unless he's a sociopath, I'd guess the odds are greater than 50-50 that he takes his own life. Then, his family has to endure their bitterness at what he's done, plus an even greater bitterness towards the vile comments hurled at him, which they will then blame for his suicide.
Unfortunately, in a moment of panic like that, as the armed guard has only seconds to decide what to do, there's zero time and zero room in the adrenaline-hyped brain to look forward to what the future may hold for you and your family if you do NOT risk your life as your job description requires.
They did. Leftie report John Harwood says this incident proves that a good guy with a gun can't stop a bad guy with a gun - pointing to the trained and armed police officer.
But the police officer was a union government employee... and the ROTC kids inside were just brave people fighting for their lives.
Had the ROTC students (and coaches) been armed, instead of the police, this incident could have ended sooner with less loss of life.
Columbine was an outlier. Police reevaluated their tactics afterwards.
I have never believed that BS about bullets fired straight up.
At every instance when this kid could have been stopped his office failed.
He's the boss....he goes.
“I’m just a monitor.”
I should have been a little more careful in my wording. It was at the targets but the way he was shooting seemed like gun fire was coming from everywhere.
And the idiot shooters would know that there were people with guns.
.
If there was a good excuse for the Deputy’s action why was he suspended without pay?
If six million Jews had met their oppressors with a pistol instead of acquiescence, how would things have turned out. It is always better to confront.
“Hence the importance of arming _teachers_: give the people who will be targets the option to fight back. You cant assume people, even armed, will rush into harms way - you have to arm those who will need to get _out_ of harms way.”
I was talking with a couple of VA (Vet’s Admin) police about the VA’s complete ban on self-defense. Told them I was still waiting for an explanation of how disarming me makes *me* safer.
One of them was being obnoxious about it, so I asked him, “Are *you* going to take a bullet for *me*?” Can’t remember getting a look of such pure hatred.
I’m betting he’s not taking a bullet for anybody. Probably a Xlinton voter.
What was he doing?
Exactly. Good post!
We saw an episode of May berry where Barney was ordered to go and face a couple of bullies. Though reluctant, he did. He was actually Quite brave, in that instance.
The one’s in schools around here only have tasers.
You mean coming down as fast as they went up?
He was just following the Broward County sheriffs office policy of ignoring trouble and hoping it would go away.
He didn’t sell enough tickets to this event. /spit
