Clicks on an Arlington, Virginia, website are originating from an internal Amazon site
While the world waits with bated breath for Amazon to announce which of its 20 finalist cities will be awarded the pleasure of trading its tax base to Jeff Bezos in exchange for the companys much-ballyhooed second headquarters, a small local news website may have found the answer in its Google Analytics data.
ARLnow.com, which serves Arlington, Virginia, found an unusual amount of traffic to a December story about Arlington County winning an award for its environmentally friendly policies. After doing some digging, the site says the vast majority of the traffic is coming from an internal Amazon site devoted to its HQ2 search.
Does this mean that Amazon has, in fact, chosen northern Virginia, one of the 20 finalist cities, as the site for its second headquarters and that, in fact, the web traffic is from Amazon employees researching their new home city?
Or does it mean, in fact, that Amazon circulating the article among its employees was merely part of the research process at Amazon, and that, in fact, Amazon has yet to choose a site for HQ2?
Or does it mean, in fact, that one guy at Amazon pulled up the article for reasons unrelated to HQ2, left his computer on over the weekend, and accidentally bumped something on his desk that landed on his mouse, leading to repeated clicks on the article, when, in fact, it was only one legitimate click?
The Washington, D.C., area has long been rumored to be the front-runner for HQ2, on the basis of three area cities being announced finalists, and other strengths in the area, not the least of which is that Bezos bought a huge mansion in the area last year. It also gives Amazon an east coast base to go with its headquarters in Seattle.
Chances are Amazon will let us know the real answer in due time, but only, of course, until after its milked the HQ2 search for all the free publicity its worth.
Screw this, Badger .... what are the Kardashians up to these days ????
It’s seeding more demorcats!
The last thing we need is Washington Post owner Bezos adding to his power in Virginia.
They can lobby Congress easier
I refrained earlier from politicizing this, but this location smacks of it, for all the obvious reasons.
Yep, no traffic problems there.
Yes.
Analysts last week projected it would be a political decision and the result would be the D.C. area or NY.
This seems like a lousy decision based upon quality of local airports and surface traffic.
If I were to pick a place for a east coast hub, I’d pick Jacksonville, FL................
As if they weren’t already seedy enough!.............
Too far south. I’d do it somewhere near Richmond. But definitely not in NVA.
Too many traffic problems in VA, bad weather in winter shuts down interstates and the housing costs are already sky high.
Jacksonville has good weather all year round, I-95 north and south and I-10 west, a huge SHIPPING PORT, An international Airport and lots of cheap land...................Florida has NO STATE INCOME TAX..........................
Not to mention some of the most horrid weather in the continental US in all four seasons.
Ah but they do have an income tax....when a sucker rents a car his income is confiscated!
Bezos didn’t buy a mansion in Pittsburgh so I guess we’re out of the running.
If they want to relocate to traffic clogged, horrifyingly expensive Arlington, Virginia just because the local pols suck-up to climate change wackos, they’ll get what they deserve.
Jeff Bezos is a 100% made Swamp Monster at this point.
Idle speculation. You’ll find out soon enough. If you desire an answer right away, you’ll get an answer, but not always the right one.
Most East Coast airports are horrible, sad messes. JFK is a pit, Logan is a dump, and Atlantic City is podunk. Speaking of Atlantic City:
“The difference between Las Vegas and Atlantic City is the difference between getting conned by a beautiful call girl and getting mugged by a crack head.” ~Drew Carey
So much of East Coast infrastructure is decrepit crap.
