The U.S. Army is awarding its Medal of Heroism to three Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) cadets killed in last week's school shooting in Parkland, Florida, an Army spokesperson confirmed Tuesday. Alaina Petty, Peter Wang and Martin Duque were all students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School where the deadly attack unfolded.
The Army awards the Medal of Heroism to JROTC cadets who perform "acts of heroism."
"The achievement must be an accomplishment so exceptional and outstanding that it clearly sets the individual apart from fellow students or from other persons in similar circumstances," the Army said in a statement. "The performance must have involved the acceptance of danger and extraordinary responsibilities, exemplifying praiseworthy fortitude and courage."

Absolutely.
Maybe someone has a link to the citation.
No.
Not from the military anyway.
Are the cadets going to get a military funeral too with a 21 gun salute?
At least one will be buried in his uniform.
We must honor them ALL as the students they were - at least until the dead have been buried and mourned.
Why?
Because you say so?
This is not a vapid sort of thing and it is something you do before the funeral so the person can be buried with their medal.
Now there is vapid liberal reasoning.
You want to prevent those young men from being buried with their honors on the off chance someone's feeling might be hurt because their child was not in ROTC and so not eligible for this award?
Give. Me. A. Break.
To be cruel, you should award heroism awards if they had attacked the shooter. But, the Army did step up and recognize them. Now, about those recruiters killed by Obama’s Muslim shooters ....
because they where liberal hero's.
ok
it’s on REALLY POOR taste to use the word “fantastic” about any of this yet.
you thin the mother ####ing parents are reading that and saying “####ING FANTASTIC!!”
the only thing fantastic is that some cold hearted #### on this board would use that word to describe it
Reminds me of when matthews said i love that storm.
“Because the only heroes were the cadets?”
No, because the Real World isn’t “even Steven.”
I drill that into my kids ALL the time, “Don’t expect to get the same as everyone else; that’s not Real Life. SOMETIMES you do, but not always, and when you don’t, don’t be the whiner going around grousing about it not being fair. Fair is a weather condition, not a valid expectation of how life will treat you, so just get over it.”
No beef against the kids but what is the evidence that they did anything heroic? If it doesn’t matter why not award them the Medal of Honor?
Always someone waiting to piss on someone else’s parade...you just picked the wrong parade...
Something that occurs to me (and maybe I am alone) but isnt 3/17 a bit on the high side for random? Especially in this heavily libtarded district? Is there a specific group he was targeting? We hear he was being bullied but yet he did not target the bullies, it would seem. Is there an angle on this the Brown Shirt Media is not wanting us to know?
A serious question:
Did they do anything heroic, or were they just victims?
Has that info been released?
I don’t think he was bullied. I think it was the other way around. I admit I could be wrong, but that was the feeling I got.
I have been hearing he got beat up a couple times by his ex gfs new bf and other students videod It and spread it on social media. They even have a short vid of him going 6 on1 I have seen. Who knows? Maybe he deserved it.
Between the Brown Shirt Medias propaganda and the Russians who knows what the hell is going on?
Wow, thats a very ignorant statement.
The JROTC is part of the army. It is appropriate for them to honor their members (I was JROTC in high school).
You are the one “jumping out with comments” to soon. Gather facts, think and than speak.
I think Valium is in your future
Boy are you WAY behind the curve :)
don’t knock it till you try it :)
If this were an act of terror from outside groups I would be more inclined to agree with the medals and honors.
But this was not outside terrorism.
If one of these kids were in the Drama club, would they be getting Academy Awards or Tony’s?
Probably not. Of course the drama groups tend to look down on personal courage and would rather praise people like David Hogg. Now he probably will get some kind of award from them.
If this were an act of terror from outside groups I would be more inclined to agree with the medals and honors.
So people who respond to a threat from an American are less worthy of praise and honor then those who respond to a threat from a foreigner.
That is really messed up but whatever.
