Mitts back. The former governor of Massachusetts and occasional native son of Michigan has a new persona: Mr. Utah. Hes going to bring Utah conservatism to the whole Republican party and to the country at large. Wholesome, efficient, industrious, faithful. Utah has a lot to teach the politicians in Washington, he says in announcing his Senate campaign. Maybe.

Romney is the quintessential undocumented Democrat in an R jersey.
He will say anything necessary to get elected and mean none of it.
Never trust a Mormon.
Who walks like he has a stick up his butt.
“Orin had to find someone to carry on his legacy...”
Something happened to Hatch in the last 12 years or so. There was a time where his name was used in Democratic fundraising appeals. For example “Imagine Orrin Hatch as head of the Senate Judiciary Committee...”
He wasn’t a fire-eater but yet he was a reliable conservative vote for the GOP. Did he get old or was he in the Senate too long and ended up getting co-opted by the bipartisan good ol boy network there?
Maybe both. But I’m glad he’s retiring.
Put him in the Senate. McCain’s on the way out, and we must save endangered species. I can see the bumper sticker: “Vote for Mit. Save the RINO.” As junior Senator, he’ll get the committee-ships that he’s assigned, and like it.
While funny, it's not really applicable. In mormondom, bishops abound. There could be a bishop on every block in some Mormon towns.
Romney being a misfit for America could easily make him quite a good fit for Utah. Mormons often vote as if they are a tribe. They stick together, and appreciate the influence of the influential.
This does not make them terribly unusual; but it is fairly identifiable.
There is also a mysterious element of manipulation from on high. Someone up top (I thus surmise) said, "Oppose Trump; he is not good for the influx of Mexicans", and so right away, you see erstwhile (R) team players (Beck, Flake, Romney) going vehemently against the best Presidential prospect conservatism has seen in decades.
That is just my observation; and I write as one who has lived in Mormon country for over 60 years.
“Oppose Trump; he is not good for the influx of Mexicans”,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That is the most important thing to the Mormon church and the Bush League Republicans.
They want to complete the GHW Bush Plan for North Mexico before Poppy croaks.
“The former governor of Massachusetts”
That should be enough of a warning.
That's precisely the reason why I couldn't stand the Kennedy family and the Bushes. They acted or act as though they're America's royalty entitled to high office, and that by implication we're their subjects.
Trump’s support for Romney follows his tactics to FLOOD the Swamp. No draining seen here.
Romney is a statist, socially liberal, globalist POS. Your kind of guy? But not one of “our young”.
We dodged a bullet keeping this used car salesman out of the WH. By now we would have more gun control and more socialized trade (did he not slam Trump for backing out of Obama’s Paris Accord?)
He is the enemy.
Electability is BS, when the party itself works against the base’s choice for primary candidate. You know that though. “Electable” “conservatives” have destroyed the Republic just as much as the most ardent liberal Democrats. Trump was not “electable” but the alternative would have been open-borders Jeb. I get the sense you and Jeb would get along swimmingly.
All I care about is judiciary and Romney will be good for that.
Ann Coulter was a huge supporter too.
That's the problem. The party line usually is adverse to Trumps agenda to MAGA.
Speaking of Rand Paul, he's sill hoping to get to the White House and could possibly challenge Trump in 2020
Even Mitt, if he thinks there is any hope for him to primary Trump, he probably will.
The senate is usually a good place from which to run for president.
You sense entirely wrong.
If you do not understand that letting an un-electable candidate win the primary assures another Dem vote in the House or Senate, or even worse, not caring about it, there is no need to try to engage in any further conversation.
We have a one vote margin in the Senate, rather then 4 or 5 due to nominating un-electable candidates.
That is reality, not wishes, dreams, or “senses”
“Romney is a misfit for America”
Maybe so, but don’t expend any of your valuable neurotransmitters between now and next January 3 fussing over it.
He might as well be sworn in right now.
I'd think his anti-war stance would pull in votes across the political spectrum. I'm disappointed that President Trump is still in Afghanistan trying to buy off leadership their citizens hate, hasn't come to Assad's side in Syria, and can't or won't acknowledge that what we did in Ukraine and Egypt (etc ad nauseum) is far worse than "Russian interference"in our election.
PS:
Primaries are sort of like deciding what to wear to a gunfight. One may look cool, but that does not matter.
General elections are like the gunfight itself. Second prize is a (political) pine box.
