A North Carolina mom started serving a week-long jail sentence for having her daughter baptized, according to reports.
The 2016 baptism at St. Peters Catholic Church when the girl was 2 years old defied a judges order in a custody battle between unmarried couple, Kendra Stocks and Paul Schaaf, who are no longer together.

He’s a dickhead, Jim.
Of note: “defied a judges order” - not because she had her daughter baptized. Another hysterical headline.
I have mixed feelings.
OTOH it is good to see the man’s paternal rights also being respected in a court of law. Until now, men were regarded as ATMs to be looted at the whim of any woman they impregnated, who got to take his money and do as she pleased.
Family Court is no ones friend.... particularly when you werent married
Precisely
Catholics are allowed to Baptize their own children, in the kitchen sink if need be, if they feel the need. At least this was the teaching when I was in school.
Two weeks?
Should have been a year at least for religious fanaticism in a divorce case
Of note: defied a judges order
Too many “judges” are pompous jackasses who’ve gotten a little too lofty and think they are demi-god know-it-alls.
Facebook strikes again and again and again. Whether she should have done this or not (boyfriend may have strong Christian views that are not Catholic). Stay off public media. You can let those you care about know about a religious or blessed event. Its not the whole worlds business!
At least the child has been baptized.
Well met!
Single parents? According to my reading of the Bible, they are a little outside the rule book.
Confusing article.. It seems the couple was never married, judge gave father decision making over matters of religion. Dad is practicing Catholic. Did mom have child baptized in a different faith? or did she just do it without telling him so he couldn’t be there?
There are some very sick blackrobed tyrants that shouldn’t be judging anyone.
Betcha jackass father here had all sorts of legal connections and is probably a lawyer himself.
According to Catholic teaching, any Christian can baptize in the event of need, and the baptism is valid if three things are true:
1) Matter (water)
2) Formula (In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit)
3) Intent (the minister of baptism must intend to join the baptized to Christ’s church).
I have seen babies born struggling for life in the delivery room in exactly this way.
Couple was never married
According to the article, it's the latter. Father and mother are both Catholic.
